Newcastle (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

And has been for a while, sadly.

I keep saying it, he's peaked. Will always conjure up a moment of true brilliance, hopefully as our ultimate, big game player, but all the games of the last couple of years have caught up with him.

We have to use him carefully and hopefully he can recharge his batteries this summer.
He needs to retire from international football he was practically invisible in the World Cup , his chance of glory with Belgium has gone , if he’s not careful his domestic career will follow the same path , time catches up with everyone.

Great to see Foden back on his game and another solid 3 points for us.

The Arsenal result was a sickner, those are the types of games that win you titles.

We simply HAVE to beat them now at the Etihad.

Arsenal fan said that to me today & I told him no, those results in the 38th game win you titles. Long way to go ;)

Great win but its still a concern whether we are playing with 10 men when Haaland doesnt score.
One good thing about Haaland today was his willingness to help the team. Having a pop at Dan Burn gor one. Great lay off for Bernie. One thing though he has a pretty poor touch in general but also he doesnt get his body in front of his defender and get side on. He's square on and so ball bounces off him or defender nicks it. If he at least practices this basic technique it would help us. Maybe he will now as he realises scoring is tough going forward.

Extraordinary !
Arsenal went two nil down at home to possibly the weakest team in the league and dug themselves out of it in the dying seconds. Well done, but it’s a game I expected them to win 5 or 6 without breaking sweat.
We beat one of the strongest teams in the league without actually playing very well.
It‘s a mystery innit?!?
Gone are tge days of commentary..now even the commentators are looking for ''likes'' from the red shirts and Geordiies before being a goid commentator, and don't get me started on so called pundits! . How do the geordies get such a pass fk knows. Eddie Howe and Areta are cut from same unlikeable and uncomfortable cloth!

Yeah, Tbf I think we were always gonna need to beat them at ours - which we’ve already proved we can do - so Iooking beyond the hyperbole/media reactions, in the cold light of day I’m not sure their game yesterday means anything more than another 3 points for them in a home match against beatable opponents.

Ederson, 6 - Distribution was mental but was otherwise fine, well done on 100 clean sheets

Walker, 7 - Kept Gordon and ASM relatively quiet today, apart from a couple of moments
Akanji, 6 - Generally fine but always has a "hologram" moment in him, where you can see he's there but defenders just go straight through him as if he's not
Dias, 7 - Was really good at the basics today and stepped into midfield a couple of times
Ake, 9 - My personal MOTM, a real star at the moment

Rodri, 7 - Did all the simple stuff well today, struggled a bit when Newcastle made their subs
De Bruyne, 5 - Pushed hard but rushed it on occasion, he's starting to wane now, what a player he's been
Gundogan, 6 - Unlucky not to score early on, was otherwise a bit mixed

Foden, 8 - What a goal, should have had another in the second half
Haaland, 8 - Looks like a part of the team now, loved his celebration for Bernardo's goal
Grealish, 9 - Never seen such a talented grafter before, gives absolutely everything

Special mention for Bernardo as well.
I agree with all that apart from Rodri who I would have given a 9 too. He is the glue that holds us together.

Correct about Ake , at the moment he is our best defender although I think our defence is always better when Dias plays.

Dias enjoys the art of defending in a way that Laporte doesnt......if that makes sense
