Going newcastle tomorrow night for first time with lads. anyone from there or who has been got any advice of where to go?

Met some geordie girls on holiday in Greece a few years ago and decided with my mates we would go up and see them, we got a hotel etc and hit the town, we went all over the main street and eventually after many beers we ended up on that bloody boat thing. The night went really well as manage to get a grip of the girl I liked in the club and then thought hotel time and we walked out arm in arm with me thinking 'bingo'. Problem was I didn't account for the nutters who hang around near the bridge, we walked out of the club and I am not lying it was raining bottles and pint pots from above us on the bridge and unfortunately a piece of glass sliced through the girls arm I was with and there was blood everywhere!!

The hotel plan was obviously dead in the water and I had to get the poor girl to hospital as her arm was literally hanging off, thinking back now I am still gutted we never made it back to the hotel what a twat for throwing that glass!!

The moral of this little story I suppose is avoid the bridge as it is full of Gazza's who will cause you nothing but grief!!

It is alot better now I'm told as the bridge has a large police presence stopping people throwing stuff down so don't listen to me go and enjoy yourself mate!

As for the boat I had a laugh in there so go for it, you'll be reet.

I'm at uni up here, there's something for everyone up here, what sort of evening entertainment are you after?!?

I've always wanted to go newcastle on a night out, i think the geordie accent on the girls is by far the main reason lol

is there anywhere in newcastle that has like a 42's/5th ave type club?

I live and work in Newcastle, as do a few others on here. It's not a bad night out at all. Very visitor-friendly. We get a lot of stag and hen parties travelling from up and down the country and there are plenty of students about as well as the locals.

There's not a great deal to the Bigg market, but it does have that grimy quality folk seem to find attractive. The Bee Hive is an old pub with the cheapest beer in town. Just mind how you go and don't be an arsehole and you'll have a laugh. as eshiers1 will attest they have strippers in City Vaults on matchdays. Up the road, The Gate www.thegatenewcastle.co.uk is a lot like the Printworks, with Tiger Tiger and Lloyd's and all that. There's also Mood nightclub which gets a bit daft sometimes. Not bad for a 'normal' night out. The taxi queue outside here is a good bet for getting home as it's well organised by the dibble and has a burger van.

Down by Central Station, you'll find Revolution, Perdu, Wetherspoons and a new Lloyd's, The Mile Castle. There's also North (much like the one in Northern Qtr) and inside the station itself there's Centurion.

Speaking of Jesmond, you can get a Metro through to West Jesmond station for a couple of quid, takes about 5-10 mins. Jesmond is the sort of place you can hang around all day and not hear a Geordie accent. Full of students. There are however a number of decent upmarket bars and hotels round here, mainly along Osborne Road. Expect to pay top whack for your beer, though.

Digital http://www.yourfutureisdigital.com/newcastle/index.html is often great, but expect to pay an arm and a leg to get in. The Academy runs the Bulletproof club night http://www.o2academynewcastle.co.uk/eve ... of-tickets which is usually a good night out. These are about the closest you'll get to 42s/5th.

Out in Ouseburn (hop on the Metro to Manors, 3mins from Central Station) is the more indie/artsy/folky sort of crawl. The Cumberland Arms http://www.thecumberlandarms.co.uk/ serves the best range of weird real ales in town and the Cluny http://www.theheadofsteam.co.uk/default ... abid=10194 hosts some good bands etc.

The Quayside's gone a bit off the boil lately and the Boat was closed, sold off and moved years ago.

A cracking website used to be The Burglar's Dog, but the guy who ran it stopped updating it a while ago. It's still up though and a lot of the content is still valid: www.theburglarsdog.co.uk
