Newcastle post match thread

Any criticism of Newcastle is wrong. They very nearly took a point and we could have only blamed our selfs. They got their tactics right, they have an inferior squad, but a very good goalkeeper in the making.
They lost, end of story, dress it up how you like.

Would rather see bernado in David’s position and keep the pace out wide to create situations like the goal on both sides.

That's one way to look at it, but others will disagree due to Newcastle deciding not to make any kind of a game of it.

As football is supposed to be an entertainment , I have sympathy with the second view of their approach.

I think it was said on sky last night, the games against city have become predictable. One defending for there lives and us trying to break the wall down. I can understand to a certain degree the lower teams but its nearly every team that's coming with the same attitude. 18 wins on the bounce and still there tactics stay the same. Have any of these managers realised it doesn't work! Id like to see a team come at us more often, see what the back 3/4 and the keeper are made of. However, well done to the lads, good win, well deserved and lets be honest it should have been more.

Had we not been wastefull with chances, we would have been up 3 or 4-0 and noone would have said Newcastle played a good game. We created a lot of chances on their goal, they hardly got near it. Granted they got to an attacking spirit the last 15 minutes, guess they wouldn't have if we had been more clinical, but even when they tried to attack they hardly managed to produce anything. Yes otamendi had to head a ball out, it was about the only shot on target of them the whole match afaik, and even that happened because Walker was unlucky to loose his balance and slip.

It's us who are spoiled. We got used to finishing it off confterably and have a WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW form. Even if we dropped points, so what? After so many wins you'd grant the team and the manager a unlucky slip up.

We won in a game that last season against similar opponents we would have drawn or lost but the commen thing is inaccuracy with our shooting.

22 shots only 6 on target.

We will always give teams a chance if we don´t sharpen up our shooting. Got to assume a shot is taken because there is a good chance to score but if that player simply misses the target ie fails to get his shot where a save needs to be made then same as last season.

Just watched the highlights & a technical question :- In the second half Kev sent in a long range right foot shot - the ball hit the post the rebound found Kun & he tapped it in, but this was disallowed for offside. If the ball had say gone in off the inside of the post would it have counted ?

For some reason on my TV there was some problem & this 30 second bit re-looped 5 or 6 times so I got a really good look.

Certainly Kun was in front of the last defender when Kev shot, but by the time the ball got to Kun for the tap in a Newcastle defender had run beyond him & he was certainly onside at the moment he made contact with the ball.

Should it have been chalked off ?

The argument put forward regarding the Aguero goal was that if the defender makes no attempt to play the ball and it hits him accidently then Aguero would be offside but in this case the defender deliberately attempted to play the ball and actually touched it which changes the situation under a new interpretation of the rule. There is no reference to the defender having to be in control of the ball. Halsey claimed that all refs know this rule although it is not otherwise generally known.

"The new rule changes this situation as the attacking player in an offside position when the ball was kicked by a teammate who gets a rebounded or deflected ball after it was deliberately played by the opponent (except from a deliberate save), is no longer offside and is not considered to have gained an advantage.29 Apr 2016"
Attempting to block a shot is one of the definitions of a deliberate save though.

If the KDB shot had gone in it was a goal. Aguero is offside when KDB takes the shot, so he's offside.

i will say one thing about this city team and squad you don't notice any replacements players just slot into the role and the setup looks the same every players knows the role there asked to do and when somebody covers its a well oiled cog and they don't look out of place

I certainly notice the drop in quality if KDB or Dave are missing.

Not a big deal, though, because they are exceptional players. Hopefully the deputies will get into full swing later in the season.

when we play against teams who park the bus, we should move the ball a lot faster instead of going from side to side and back, hit them with speed and the other team will be dragged all over the place leaving gaps in the area. but its still 3 pts and 15 in front of them

The finishing and final passes were quite poor all night, KDB was the worst culprit finishing managing to get none of his chances on target. The defending was erratic for the last 15 mins, the Mangala sub showed an intent to sit back, and it was similar to the last 15 at OT.

Should have been a routine 4-0, could have ended up 1-1.

And that's why Sanchez will be here in January.

Ian Cheeseman said and I agree, that we deliberately took it easy last night.

Haha! Just remembered I’ve chosen the Newcastle home game as my first home game of 2018 as it’s the 1st weekend I can get down to the NW in January! If they play like that at home, how much more negative can they get at our place??

They can't actually be any more negative, that's the good news.
