Newcastle post match thread

80% possession, 16 goal attempts v their 6, hit the woodwork 3 times, a world class save from their goalie, says more about how good we have been in previous games, shite is too harsh
Maybe I just think we have set the bar so high that performances like last night become a little bit maddening. I think the next push we need to make is to find a way to be as relentless when we do make changes. Like you say though it could have been 6-0 really.

Just a tough one to judge because I think Newcastle's mentality enabled us to dominate rather than us being overly brilliant. What's great though is the fact that teams are beaten before we've even kicked off.

Worst performance of the season ... agree

We were shite... no chance

We can’t win every game playing football of a quality that has never been seen in the PL before and the fact it was our worst performance is testament to how utterly brilliant we have been so far

Very very pleasing to take the 3 points in a tricky game in freezing conditions when we were nowhere near our best and were missing key players
When say shite I mean in the context of the normal level of performance this season. I don't mean shite in the same way that United are shite.

I think the bigger issue is for a club like Newcastle to set up like that at home, self proclaimed club of passion, my arse

what a fantastic win. i dont think we will see anything like this again. people need to just enjoy it. how anyone can be moaning on here is beyond me. what exactly do some posters want ? it literally can't get any better.

Finally.
Another 3 points away from home on a wet wednesday night in Newcastle. And the Blues go marching on....

That was clearly Benitez’s strategy and it nearly worked. He knew that they couldn’t compete so his aim was to keep it to a manageable scoreline until the last 10 mins then have a go. By then we were lulled into playing a slow game and the increase in tempo could have caught us out but they weren’t good enough. Not the best match to watch but you can’t blame opposing teams for these tactics. They’ve tried everything and so far and still haven’t found a way to stop us.
Yup, but that's why Pep will be livid, it's our job to not let our tempo slip in these games and it will be our toughest challenge. We cannot slow the tempo until we have an unassailable lead and until this game that's exactly what we've done

We can only beat whats put in front of us , the Geordies were happy keeping the score down for 80 minutes and then if still in the game , look for an equaliser . You cannot blame Benitez for doing this with the players he has at his disposal and i expect the same against Palace and Watford , teams are giving us so much respect but unfortunately we will see little of our free flowing football against these type of tactics. Kun and Jesus's goals were definitely offside the officials got both decisions right , but the foul on Gundagon was a leg breaker and a red card and the ref missed that . Tiredness is kicking in the likes of KDB , Kun and Dinho are looking jaded at times so i think the Palace game will be a step too far , and predict a draw at Selhurst Park , which will not be the end of the world because the title is still in the bag.

i will say one thing about this city team and squad you don't notice any replacements players just slot into the role and the setup looks the same every players knows the role there asked to do and when somebody covers its a well oiled cog and they don't look out of place

I would say the exact opposite.....the reason people are saying we looked a bit tired/slow/off the pace/not our best or worst performance is not because any players were/are tired.....but simply whilst good players, Bernado Silva and especially Gundogan are nowhere near the class of who they replaced (Sane & Silva).
add Danilo to that as well ;)
