Newcastle Thread - 2023/24

I agree that we're probably 2 or 3 seasons away from competing and I'll take that any day considering where we were 2 years ago.

Our takeover is just coming up to 2 years on 7th October so we are miles ahead of plan. On our second anniversary of the takeover we'll have gone from 19th in the league on 3 points from 7 played to having played our first Champions League tie at home for more than 20 years against PSG.

That's not just progress, that's astronomical progress.
Thing with football now everything could change in 2 or 3 years, structure rules etc.. americans owning most clubs ..could be a. Block power struggle. You can see a sort of world club league ( by invite only!) Coming

We've been branded disrespectful already today and I couldn't care less. The only shame is that I don't mind either of the Sheffield clubs and could think of a few others where I would love to see us slaughter.
When you start challenging the red shirts watch the change in attitudes towards both yourself for
supporting your club and your team.

I was willing you'd score 10 on Sunday as well.

Enjoy the win and never apologise :)

We were far too passive that day. I was pleased that we only lost by one goal but I felt we didn't give you a game and never really put you under pressure. We could have tried to get at you and then could have got pummelled but that's football. We looked like we didn’t want to prod the bear in case we took a battering and that doesn’t sit right with me.

This remains the biggest question mark over Eddie Howe. His record against the sides at the top of the table is abysmal. Yes he's had sides you wouldn't expect to challenge them, but you'd maybe think he'd have one or two results. You were placid at our place, failed to kill off Liverpool and then were outplayed by Brighton. Whilst a point against Milan is a good result, you didn't lay a glove on them either.

On your other posts, you are quite right. The progress has been immense but in football the context is ignored and you set a new benchmark. It's a lot like Arsenal. Their title challenge came from nowhere with that exceptional start to the season last campaign, and now the fans expect another one when maybe consolidating top 4 and improving on points is a more realistic aim...we'll see. With Newcastle you're now in the CL and staying there has to be the target. It helps on the revenue front which means you can spend more of that money and stay there. The title challenge will come more quickly if you stay in the CL as it gives you the money to spend. But I don't see Howe being the man that will deliver you a title. Winning a trophy of any sort is clearly critical as well. We'd gone a long time without one and winning the FA Cup enabled us to kick on.

On the walk back to my Travelodge I noticed how much families attended the game.
A huge proportion of Newcastle fans seemed to be in the 5 to 15 age bracket with their parents.
All bodes well for them supporter wise in the future.
I also noticed that all the night clubs were heaving outside with queues to get in in all.Mostly female.
One of the clubs the dress code seemed to be football tops from all over the world, the rest seem to be bra tops with dress, shorts and Jeans.
Not a jacket in sight.lol.

Don’t mind Newcastle and wish them well in this comp (though from what I gather the draw has not been kind).

Still not convinced with their current squad and manager that they will win a major trophy but who knows. Last night was a free hit. Interesting to see them with the pressure on.

But good luck to their long suffering supporters.
