The offside rule is not fit for purpose anymore and VAR just make things worse.

Dias’ arm is deemed to have played Bruno onside but Dias cannot play the ball with his arm. Admittedly Bruno did not play th eball with his feet but there is an advantage in having your feet ahead of the last defenders; that said, I think the law should insist on a gap between the players so that would have meant Bruno was onside.

Edit - seeing various stills that imply that even Dias arm was not playing Bruno onside!

Of more concern is that Donna looks to have been impeded and Sky talking about his size and being stronger is one of the most stupid red herrings to excuse the foul: do not have to be that big or strong to put the keeper off. Hard to tell from the video but it does look like Gigi may have been pushed as he tried to jump. Donna is being targeted and it is a case of opponents trying to cheat.

Of course, we should have defended it better. Maybe Josko could have booted the ball away after the first action and the cross that led to the goal would never have happened.

I thought we played OK today, we were the better team for 45 minutes, and they spent the last 20 with a wall of 10 defenders.

The main reason we didn't win or draw, was the woeful forward play (Doku first half apart). At the moment Cherki is adding little, and is a bit of a passenger, Foden offered little either, Haaland's best efforts were in our defence, and the subs largely awful.

How many times away from home have we put in a carbon copy of today. It feels like every other away game goes the same way and has been like this for nearly two years
End up pissed off sat at home and another weekend ruined
It’s almost scripted to the point you can sit there and actually predict everything is going unravel the fact we right the game off as us being shite is compounded every time that we actually should come away with something but for woeful finishing
Agree the way we play we have to take oue early chances, later on it drives me mad how hard we have to work to get a cross in whereas they get a free cross. This is virtually every game

I’m in fuerteventura , watched the game in a bar sat next to a geordie , Schar took Foden out he said penalty straight away .
He shook his head and said he couldn’t believe it wasn’t given , if it was the other way round he’d of gone mental .

You know that once VAR take longer than a couple a minutes, it's no longer making a decision, it's trying to justify a decision. That computer generated image to justify the onside is just plain embarrassing.
It took so long because they had to ask AI to generate an image so they could give the goal, and even AI stuggled, as when the replays were shown and frozen, it was not even similar.

Raheem Sterling scored 131 goals and provided 95 assists for Manchester City during his 339 appearances. His goal contributions made him the club's second-highest goalscorer and a key player in their trophy-winning years.

clown.
Good post - the only way the comment you replied makes sense if it was comparing the 2025 Chelsea bomb squad version of Sterling to Savinho. I would take peak Sterling to play on our right flank currently every day of the week.

Bit of a strange one. Both teams looked vulnerable defensively, particularly in the first half, several glorious chances missed and some pivotal moments decided by the referee and VAR. Don’t think we deserved to lose but definitely didn’t deserve to win. All in all, one be forgotten and move on to Tuesday night and Leverkusen.

City should have taken chances. I’m not belly-aching about the ref. The Foden pen was never going to be given(rightly or wrongly) and as for the offside. My view is always regardless who is playing, if it’s that tight then it’s a goal

It would help if the SAOT could recognise Dias wasn't floating. This is a bigger issue

With our penalty record I don't care much whether they are given or not.

That’s fine mate. I’m just saying what I see. We play well, look forward to a tough away game and we fail, again. We are better than last season but still a way of winning the league IMO. Said it before but you can’t win the league when your striker is scoring more goals than the rest of the squad combined…

We have improved at home. Away very similar.
