Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Let's just say that whatever he's doing to convince Pep to play him, he must be f*cking good at it!

But he wasn't the reason for yesterday. When it comes to the defence, it's a case of 'you can't fool all of the people, all of the time' . Any team who moves the ball quickly against us will have some success. We could/on another day would have conceded three or four in the first 45.
100% not the reason, but he is pump and not sure he was what we needed yesterday.

It’s commendable, but Foden doesn’t do us many favours in terms of winning penalties.

If he goes down and stays down clutching his ankle after that challenge, he forces the issue and the penalty gets awarded, imo.

Shouldn’t be the case, but unfortunately it is.
This is spot on. Refs often go by the outcome rather than the action. It’s wrong but writhing around even when you have hardly been touched will get the pen.

Yeah pedantry won't work, no one considered that the decision will be human still. We probably get a lot more decisions right with it but the problem will always be the opinion of a human being and the interpretation of the rules.
Are you saying that the VAR is actually human? I’ve met a few refs in my time and none were actual people.

Whether we've played well or not, why shouldnt we discuss all aspects of the game including the officiating?

It had a big impact on the result today.
Have the PL ‘Key Match Incidents’ panel commented on the pens or the offside yer? No? Thought not, is it just to review incidents that upset the Scouse tramps.

I think I've mentioned it before but I know a premier league official-I asked him 'we know the commentators can hear you..Can you hear them?' He wouldn't answer.

Worrying the amount of chances we conceded yesterday and the amount we didn't take. Said it a few times now we seem to manage to lose games we shouldn't. Think a draw would have been a fair result yesterday. And I think we need to replace dias with a real top draw center back a leader with pace and strength or get someone really during in midfield who can really get around the pitch at pace.

Richards said that the reason it wasn't given was because he got his shot off, but how many times do your hear the player was late with that tackle and the ball had gone, the foul is always given. Anywhere else on the pitch that's at least a foul and a sending off.
If a tackle is “late” and it connects with the player, it becomes a foul at that point.

There is literally no law, nor interpretation of any law, that could lead to any honest professional referee not giving a penalty yesterday.

They are bent.

Howe’s tactics v us are to foul at will. When at Bournemouth they went from playing good attacking football to a bunch of thugs v us and it’s continued with him. Didnt Pep even call him out over it the other year.
Its as if he knows the refs will let them get away with it v us

Look at the precedent this sets. Next time a skill player lets one go on the box just clatter him as hard as you can — like what happened to Pele in the 60s. Try to take him out; injure him. Who knows if we would have scored the pen given our general ineptitude at such things periodically but I don’t even care so much about that — purposeful dangerous play must be punished and the referee let that go. Disgraceful.

Even with split second timing that tackle is incredibly late, nowhere near the ball and studs onto Phil's foot.

It's reckless, mistimed and unecessary, the punishment for those poor decisions should be a Penalty!

Imagine if Phil sustaned a broken bone or ligament damage from that!
I immediately thought it was a penalty. The tackle was nowhere near the ball and the Newcastle player caught Foden at the tail end of the tibia and then planted on the foot, all in a split second granted but it was late, therefore a penalty. With Newcastle's second goal, I still think the player looked offside and why didn't they look at the two arms holding down our defender, more so than any infringement on Donnarumma, that was indicated on MoTD.

And we're soft as fuck as a team , no leader , other sides would be surrounding the ref , we just shrug and get on with it
It's supposed to be the captain's job and I dislike all the players urrounding the referee. I'm certain if Kompany or Fernandhino were still around, either one would have been having a word or two with the ref. But' you're right, the captain needs to speak up.

All bernardo does these days is have a go at the ref. Spends more time doing that then on the ball.

What I take from that Foden decision is that it's now ok to clean an opposing player out as long as they released the ball a millisecond beforehand.
