Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

Good point in the end although we did enough to win it.

Must admit I’m a little concerned about Kyle Walker. Usually mr dependable but today I have never seen him done for pace like this before. He had a bit of a torrid. Hopefully it’s just a temporary thing.

Bernardo did well. Haaland is outrageous. Gundogan struggled a little bit and I would have liked to have seen Phillips in there today instead. Foden was always a threat. Some nice touches and runs.
Stones and Rodri have had better games and hopefully it’s just feeling themselves into the season.
Gutted for Ake as would have liked to have seen him given a proper run in the side.

Definitely a red card. Anyone who has played the game knows that’s a c***s trick that sort of challenge.
The ref should have had some minerals and left it as a red. I think de Bruyne may have saved him there. Stay down a bit longer and have the physio on etc and I think it may stay red. Get up and give trippier a cuddle and suddenly it doesn’t seem all bad.

Take a point this early on in the season but will have to liven up for the next few games.

Seriously undervalued by the club it seems. The only person pushing Walker and Cancelo was supposed to be playing for Girona right now. We look thin all around.

Not just the fullbacks, who's pushing Foden? His form has been below his previous standard for most of 2022. Mahrez cannot play on the LW, Alvarez got our attention playing central or right, Palmer doesn't play there.

In fact not just who is pushing him, who replaces him if his form drops or he gets injured?

Few thoughts…

- Good point. Not many teams will win at SJP this season.
- Fucking weird how many times Sky mentioned the Grealish comment about Almiron- pathetic !
- Andy Hinchcliffe is a c**t
- KDB best midfielder in the world and it’s an embarrassment Given/Micah haven’t mentioned the assist from KDB for the equaliser. You literally won’t see a better pass all season.
- Pep interview was class.
The Kev pass made me make all sorts of noises

Nope. Way too long......

Don’t people see the problem with Rodri in games like these? When we have the ball with 70-80% possesion in games, he’s loving life. With time on his side and no pressure from the opposition, he could pick out anyone to pass to. But in games like these when they are closing him down, his weaknesses are shown very clearly. His defensive contributions are a problem. That’s always been my view.
Not saying this is on him, but Newcastle just sliced through our midfield today.
Thst why Maximun had a field day.. We were so harrued in CM they got the ball out wide to him when he had time to get it down and run. All the Walker jibes today result of CM being absolutely done for 65 mins. I am not sure Phillips will be goid enough on the ball but if he doesnt get sent off its games like today when he is nedded. Liverpool as well when Thiago's fit again

We desperately need another full back (don't care which side at this point), and we could probably do with either another midfielder or another winger (if not both).

But we'll sign nobody.
This season we seen that focused on making more money by selling than actually buying because we are very thin at the back and an injury away from a disaster .

Biggest disappointment was that we couldn’t win to ram the vile SLY commentary and the big nose Judas BASTARDs shithouse words down their throats. I said beforehand Howe would send out his team to kick fuck out of City, he‘s been around the Premier League long enough to know it’s a free hit against City. The red card would have been harsh but it wasn’t a clear and obvious mistake. That said a point from a 1-3 position is still a good result. Thought Haaland and KDB were immense, as was Silva. Onwards and upwards!
Spot on.
I thought 'it' was a yellow.
A good point in the end - always disappointing not to get 3 but, they could have been well in front at half time. I know we could have smashed them as well, but, shit happens.
Most interesting thing for me was St maximmininiminiminman - he looked better than ever and I can see them causing many teams no end of problems - not least the scousers and trent alexander; he'll rip him a new one.
Let's hope we get the points against Palace next week.

Cracking match.
Some rather ropey 1st half performances from quite a few but much better in the 2nd.
Great assist again for Edertson for their 1st goal, fantastic long ball straight to their centre back and 5 seconds later it's 1-1.....
Awful from Walker for most of that game, Stones likewise was like a fish out of water
Not sure what Phil is doing to warrant a starting position at the moment, if Grealish was turning out those sort of performances he'd be slaughtered. Should have squared again for Haaland at 1-0 in the first half.
Bernardo came to life in the 2nd half and what a difference to the team
Still think that was a red card, ridiculous lunge at KDB, both feet off the ground...weird
Pretty decent point all round, they look much better this season and will cause problems for other sides.
Not sure why Pep didn't change it earlier down our right flank, it was obvious after 10 minutes that whatsisname had the run of that whole side and was causing us some serious hassle, they could have scored a couple before they finally equalised

As poor as we were for large parts of that game we should have won it. After we equalised we had Newcastle on the ropes but we just failed to put them away.

Just after the final whistle the camera picked up KDB and it was clear he was very pissed off. I think he knew that was two points lost.

On another topic I think Haaland is going to score a lot of goals for us but I do wonder how patient Pep is going to be with his low number of touches per game and general involvement. He isn’t really helping us defensively so we are effectively playing with ten men for large parts of the game. That’s not really Peps style.
I'm pretty sure pep knew what Haalands game was before we bought him. Sometimes it can be a liability having an out and out forward player tracking back. Remember Jesus in the Derby a couple of years ago.
