I love Phil but I think it'll do him no harm at all to have to earn his way into the starting line-up with some consistency in training and good sub appearances. If he's not ready physically or mentally (for whatever reason) then he needs the time and help to get ready.

You only build match fitness by playing in matches of course, but until he's at something approaching full-strength that might have to be sub appearances or against "lesser" opponents.

He's a cracking player but he showed against Watford that he's well below his usual levels at the moment. We (quite rightly) don't know what's going on with his health or personal life but it might just be that he needs a little bit of time and support in order to really get flying this season.

He could score an own goal and get sent off on every City appearance he ever makes from now on and I'd still drop to his feet in worship.

...so long as he doesn't say he's happy for his United mates after being shite all season and losing a cup final
