I think this will be a strange game as I don't think either team has a strong desire to win the match and continue in the competition.
Newcastle will want to win this, we haven't won a trophy for so that that we can't pick and choose. I think we'll feel that we have a chance with playing at home and we're not going to get a tougher draw than this if we do get through.

I also have a feeling that the players got so close last season that they might want to go one further but we’ll see. We were really passive when we played earlier in the season and I don't expect that to be repeated on Wednesday simply because we have home advantage which could give us a slightly better chance of getting a result. It will not be easy for either side and it shouldn't be.

Being of the 'vintage' where I was just a bit young to properly appreciate the Bell/Lee/Sumerbee era, the League Cup Final and 'that goal' by Tueart(especially as I was lucky enough to be there) always evokes fond memories for me. Also, ofcourse we almost ' made it our own' didn't we in recent times.
Having said this ( although it might well be different if i was taking time off work and/ or splashing out big bucks going to the game) I wouldn't be massively gutted if we did go out on Wednesday by playing some EDS/fringe players and concentrating on other things.
Slightly contradicting myself here, part of me would still rather win this 'proper trophy' than that 'world cup thing' (good description)in the middle of the bloody season. Other fans (especially younger ones) may well disagree however!

I was lucky enough to be around to watch you when Bell, Lee and Summerbee played and I must admit to watching your team, even if it was just for limited time on MoTD and when we played each other. Colin Bell was one of my favourite players who didn't play for us. I remember the game when you beat us 4-3 to win the title.

We desperately need to get knocked out of this competition. I would rather prioritize the Club World Cup and another injury in midfield would be devastating.

Ortega
Akanji
Gvardiol
Ake
Lewis
Phillips
Nunes
Gomez
Bobb
Doku
Alvarez
Too many players risked In that selection, who from EDS can step?

My thoughts exactly mate. You're desperate to win a cup, any cup! You need to get that giant monkey off your back, just like us in 2011. It'll be interesting to see what team Pep puts out due to injuries and suspensions and possibly not risking one or two others. I'd say it was a good time to play against us Mick.

I hope you're right, obviously. I just hope that it's a really good game and then the best team wins, whichever team that is. It should be a good game played in a really good atmosphere and we both have a chance to stick two fingers up to the moaners.

Bring on the Oil Derby and let’s both upset the hypocrites who would love to be in both of our positions. You have the best team on the planet, I only hope that we can get close to you which will be almost impossible because you have the players and you have by far the best manager.

We’re both fortunate that we have likable managers and I think it pisses people off that neither manager reacts to anything with anything other than grace.

People moan about your charges, the charges are only there because the clubs who were at the top wanted to remain at the top and they’ve been blown away. Their bitterness is a joy to watch and I really hope that you are found innocent because their minds will explode. I almost enjoy the shit you get as much as I enjoy the shite that we get because it shows they’re all rattled and I love that.

You're a good poster Mick and I'd have no problem with either yourselves or West Ham winning everything that we don't. Fuck the rest!

This competition, although I like it, is low on the list of both clubs priorities. For us even more so since we have that world club thing soon. We are already stretched with injuries so we will have to put a second string side out.
I accept that but it would still be good enough to win the game. It’s about maintaining a winning mentality.
