If we win we could end up playing a poor team in the next round, where we can then play a lower strength team.

Newcastle reached the final of this competition last season and may view it as one of trophies they are more likely to win, so it’ll be interesting to see how strong a side they field and how much they want it.

My guess is Dubravka, Livramento, Hall, Lascelles, Botman, Tonali, Longstaff, Anderson, Murphy, Isak, Almiron but I could be miles away with that.

Not sure what sort of a team Newcastle will put out.
Although they have Burnley at the weekend, they have PSG in champions league the following week.
They may not put out a very strong team either

I expect we'll make quite a few changes but we'll not be playing kids. I think we'll probably play a weaker side at home to Burnley in the league and play decent sides in the two cup games either side of Burnley.

I should have added that I expect your fans can drink in virtually any pub in town without hiding your colours and there will be no trouble, nothing worse than a bit of taking the piss out of each other. It can be a bit different after the match as we seem in attract all of the local pricks who have never been to a match in their lives but the police will soon scatter them. Drinking in town after the match should also be fine.

Respect the town and there's probably nowhere better to go as an away fan and we're proud of that. You’re more likely to get a drink bought for you than have a fight unless you start a one which isn’t very clever.

Turn up, go for a beer and food, go and enjoy the game and then either go for another drink or go home after the game. We've got more in common with each others clubs than we have differences other than recent and current history and current squad depths but we're trying.

Cant attend games anymore unfortunately. When I did I never missed the Toon game. We use to stop off for a drink in spoons (Wicket gate) Chester le Street. Never any mither and the coach was parked near the cricket club which is a short walk. In general I never had a problem with the Geordies. I Even met Ralph Coates sister and her Husband Ian a copper on holiday in Lloret. A group of us use to go drinking every night of the holiday. One early morning we were walking after a good night out and Ian stop to light up a Cig, a window opened and someone threw a pint of mixed (his and hers) over Ian, well it smelt of piss anyway. lol I think we were making a bit of noise like drunks do.

The quarter final of this competition will clash with the FIFA Club World Cup meaning we will need to field 2 squads 3000 miles apart.
Whilst I think the latter competition is pointless we all know which one the club will prioritise.
So given there is a very strong chance we will go out at the 1/4 final stage we shouldn't risk players injury/fatigue on Wednesday.
Play the fringe and prey...
