Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

The new lads really clicked today. The changing of the guard long overdue. Great that Big Erl now has someone to share the goalscoring load. We actually had a decent shape today, onwards and upwards!

I’m a little behind in this thread as I just got in. Others have probably responded.
Both Khus and Nico were really good. Hard to say who was best. Khus really did well considering the opposition. He is very quick, strong and tenacious. He really could become a star.
Nico played quite deep. Maybe he can play further forward, but he looked like he was right at home. Very impressive. Looks to me like he could also play with Rodri as well as instead of him.
Newcastle were dire, Gordon may have well as been sat with me but don’t let that fool you. We were very good today.
Cheers pal

They were absurdly shite.

I can’t quite believe how truly rubbish they were.

Don’t get me wrong I’m delighted at the result but let’s not kid ourselves that it’s some transformation.

They weren't shite though.

We completely negated any threat they had, and there wasn't much they could do about it.

Was going to say the exact same thing

That (home) debut reminded me so much of Rodri's debut.....I said about Rodri at the time he was always in the right place at the break down just like Gaz Barry used to be....same with Nico- always there at the right spot and just like Rodri he is exceptionally cool under pressure....just gives a simple calm pass.

An awful lot to feel confident about with that performance from Nico...

Foden so much better in the middle where he can get on the half turn - that is his game and playing him wide does not allow him to do that as much.

Gvardiol's last few games have been his best ever in a city shirt....we know he can attack but defensively so much improved

Stones -I just hope/wish that he can stay fit....he makes one hell of a difference.

Khusonov - this lad is brave - he just puts his head into areas where boots are flying....his passing is also excellent and he loves the physical battle.

Edersons passing today was borderline ridiculous....baring one heart stopping one early in the first half to Gundo (who did extremely well tbf to get out of it) he made some creative midfielders look bad it was so good between the lines (and obviously long passes as well)

Haaland loves responsibility and I do wonder if Pep made him captain to try and drag that extra % out of him.....it worked when it would have been obvious to give the captaincy to either Gundo or even Stones.

Marmoush can finish.....we now have a goal threat from either outwide or the no.10 role....technically excellent, pace and a clever player as well who can slow the game down and speed it up at the right time.

I saw something today that has been missing all season....those little 3-4 yd passes between players which to some seem pointless but are designed to keep the opposition changing position and also to slow the game down and keep possession....Nico was doing it with everyone - we used to see it from Yaya to David Silva a lot....or Gundo and Rodri pre Gundo leaving for Barca......today it was back

Doku looked hungry and brave as ever coming on - happy for McAtee as well - got the goal while being clearly fouled.
Agree with this.

So obvious that should be our front 4 and Foden should be in the middle.

Very strange Pep didn’t realise that before the Arsenal game.

Biggest difference today is Nico’s first instinct is to pass forwards quickly.

Kovacic and Bernado’s first instinct is to dribble. Gundogan’s is to look up, take his time and play a short pass and get it back.

Nico and Rodri realise we play quicker as a team letting the ball do the work, and have the instinct to play the right pass before they even receive it.
