Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I cringe at some of our so called fans. And it’s not just the match threads. They infest every thread. There’s nothing wrong with constructive and even frustrated views, but some of the spoilt brats on here are pathetic. City were fucking superb yesterday. Every other manager would have walked this season. We’re so lucky
Some of them are not blues mate - they’re WUMs having a laugh trying to wind us up.

My biggest takeaway from yesterday was that was a young team all over the pitch with the exemptions of Gundig, stones and Eddie

Agreed Nico was outstanding and MOM for me
There's always a lot of talk on here about tactics and quite rightly so, but football is primarily a physical game. Some of our top players have dipped physically and quite interesting that most of them weren't playing yesterday. I don't think this is a coincidence.

Really great to see an injection of younger players, was getting a bit worrying watching opposition teams strolling through our midfield. This gives us some hope that we have the players in place to be competitive again next season. Hugely encouraging performance.

First half was superb. Second half more controlled. Nico gave the structure for the whole team, which is why we looked more like ourselves. Savinho is going to be some player, Marmoush gives Erling some help as well as being a great player.
Ps reading through some comments we just thrashed an in form team and played the best game of the season, so why do people still have a pop at players in this thread? Granted Kovacic has not been what we needed but put it in the player thread and not in a thread that should be positive

I can accept/understand that mate, and I don’t care about that - I’d do it on their forums if I could be arsed - but there are many, many City ‘fans’ that make up the brain dead 250 comments every time we draw/loose

Because they have nothing better in their lives to do

We were absolutely humiliated today. You fans deserve playing someone competitive. I thought we'd lose, but it would be a good game and competitive. I'm not taking anything from you guys, despite what some people think I personally think your the benchmark in which to be judged, but dear me the Club I love sometimes humiliated and embarrass you and today for me,this was the case. I just wan us to bed competitive, it'll make the PL competitive. Well played you were fantastic today but you were let down by us, we didn't even give you a game. We are so s**t sometimes, I'm fuming.
Happens mate, we've had loads of these types of performances. If you were allowed to spend your own money you'd be lightyears ahead of where you are.

I know this is all about Savinho. But. The way Nico battled for the ball there is exactly what we’ve missed this season. Gundo and Kova get dispossessed like that and it’s been creating counters against us. Time after time this season.

That wasn't GNIAC on comms then ;-)

Now THAT'S more like it!

I had a feeling of foreboding before kick off, but we seemed up for the scrap from the start. There was movement & energy & I was impressed with how quietly efficient Nico was in the centre, as he partnered with a deep lying Gundog, who also had a quietly impressive game.

The opening exchanges were mostly City & then BANG! Moose latched on to a long pass from Ederson & lobbed the ball over Newcastle's keeper for his first City goal & the opener. This is just what he needed to settle him down, as I feel he's been trying too hard to impress in his first three matches.

The opener saw us rediscover our groove & within the space of 14 minutes, Moose scored another two to complete a stunning first half hat-trick! City 3-0 going into halftime!

Newcastle tried to hit us after the break, but we absorbed their early pressure & began to apply some of our own. City had the better of the exchanges & you could see Newcastle running out of ideas & heart.

The fear of a late collapse has been there all season, but we seemed to have a lot more staying power than we've displayed recently. And so it was when a late Gundog corner was flicked on by Haaland for McAtee to put the game to bed, with a falling cushioned finish, whilst being fouled. City 4-0 Newcastle.

Khusanov, Lewis, Stones & Gvardiol were all excellent, as was the lively & dangerous Savinho. However, my MoTM must go to Moose. He was electric in attack & clinical in front of goal.

Roll on Real Madrid!
Feed the Moose and he will score :)

Behold the (almost) new young City team..! Notwithstanding the need for a full-back or two and given that players like Bobb and Rodri are still to make full recoveries it's hard to see where many more signings would take us - Pep doesn't like bloated squads and neither do I. Granted he was caught out this year through a lack of forward planning that he must take a degree of responsibility for, given that the average age of the squad next season will be significantly younger and, therefore, presumably, fitter, we might expect, with a tactical tweek or two, to be back to something like the form we have become accustomed to...

I don't think anybody could have foreseen the way we imploded over the last few months, yes we all knew a revamp was on its way but christ it's been a hard watch.

New buys in January always a gamble even more so in a pep side I would have thought, yet we keep the faith and wait, hope for the best whilst fearing the worst (like the good old days).

How good was yesterday, finally a (very big) glimmer of hope and what the future may hold.

From here on in anythings possible, Tarquins will be quaking soon enough and it wouldn't surprise me if we finish above them come end of the season.

Scousers too much ? You never know, beat them next week there'll start to wobble.

Madrid think we,ll be right up for it and wipe the floor with them, That said with them stuffy bast*rds you never know.

All in all, UP THE FU*KING BLUES

I’d say we could do with five players in the summer: RB, LB, creative midfielder, another wide forward, and another defensive or box-to-box midfielder. There’s a rebuild on and some senior players will need or want to move on e.g. if Ederson goes, we need a new first choice keeper. Kev and Jack are welcome to stay in my book but they will most likely be “squad” players and have star salaries so that is an issue (financial, if nothing else).
