Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

This is what you can do with a proper 6 and direct wingers with natural gift of scoring goals.

Great game from everyone and a fitting score line, hopefully a much needed morale booster before the next two big games.

at last a proper all round team performance - all enabled by Nico controlling midfield superbly - Savinho was brilliant and did his best to end Hall's career!!! - Great hat trick from Marmoush and Stones and Khusanov very good at the back

Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Amazing day, the feeling is crazy. And the three points, we came in from the first minute and got the job done. It was all fast paced, I was really happy to help the team.

"I also have to thank my team-mates, the coach and staff, everyone helped me from the first day making me feel part of this family.

"It was an amazing atmosphere, I would like to thank the fans for the really nice applause."

Not seen any of it but read the pre-match thread , Jesus, I hope some look back on their comments-‘ we are getting thrashed’ ,‘this defeat is on Pep’ bloody embarrassing before we’ve even kicked a ball . Well done blue boys !
It was embarrassing and really had to stop myself saying something that would get me into a keyboard argument earlier.

Great performance that justified what some of us were saying earlier.

Now THAT'S more like it!

I had a feeling of foreboding before kick off, but we seemed up for the scrap from the start. There was movement & energy & I was impressed with how quietly efficient Nico was in the centre, as he partnered with a deep lying Gundog, who also had a quietly impressive game.

The opening exchanges were mostly City & then BANG! Moose latched on to a long pass from Ederson & lobbed the ball over Newcastle's keeper for his first City goal & the opener. This is just what he needed to settle him down, as I feel he's been trying too hard to impress in his first three matches.

The opener saw us rediscover our groove & within the space of 14 minutes, Moose scored another two to complete a stunning first half hat-trick! City 3-0 going into halftime!

Newcastle tried to hit us after the break, but we absorbed their early pressure & began to apply some of our own. City had the better of the exchanges & you could see Newcastle running out of ideas & heart.

The fear of a late collapse has been there all season, but we seemed to have a lot more staying power than we've displayed recently. And so it was when a late Gundog corner was flicked on by Haaland for McAtee to put the game to bed, with a falling cushioned finish, whilst being fouled. City 4-0 Newcastle.

Khusanov, Lewis, Stones & Gvardiol were all excellent, as was the lively & dangerous Savinho. However, my MoTM must go to Moose. He was electric in attack & clinical in front of goal.

Roll on Real Madrid!

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "The way we played, we remembered what we were and what we have not been this season.

"We always try, but sometimes we cannot do it. I am really pleased with the pace and intensity we had up front, Nico [Gonzalez] and [Abdukodir] Khusanov were extraordinary. We need to win these games to qualify for the Champions League. We have to make this kind of performance to send our people home happy.

"[Omar]Marmoush did really well in Germany, a player with his quality and pace, I was pleased with the way he scored. Against Orient he missed chances, but today in the final third he was really good.

"[Erling] Haaland has signed a 10 year contract, so I have the feeling about him as captain. I am really happy for him." On whether he sees Haaland as a long-term City captain: "Sooner or later, a question of time."

That’s one right in the eye for all those negative moaning morbid knicker wetters telling us before the match that the barcodes were going to batter us all over the park. Give Pep and his boys some credit, fucking magnificent Blues

Best performance of the season.
Good performances all round as well. Nico and Savinho great as well.
Kush starting to look impressive.
Stones was great too.I hope he can stay fit now.

BTW Anyone else think Omar Mamoush looks like a left sided Salah?
Seriously impressive.

My comment disappeared in a technical wipe out. Suffice it to say I was pleased with the selection, the tactics and the tempo. We are on the right lines. More to do, though.
