Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Haaland grew 2 inches with that armband on I'd let him keep it. I like having that big massive unit staring down the opposition skipper at the coin toss aswell. Found it reassuring.
i agree. i think he genuinely loves this club and would be a great captain.

Merson and his “insight” on SSN just now.

What did we learn today Paul?

“Newcastle opened the game up”.

What did you think of Nico Gonzalez Paul?

“I didn’t even notice him”.

How much does this amoeba get paid?

The fact that he didn’t notice Nico goes to show how good a game he had.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We were really good, good energy up front. Nico Gonzalez helped us a lot, I was really pleased because we needed him, it has been a tough three months.

"He is our mini Rodri! He has a huge presence, his pace, and his time at Barcelona academy, it is all about the ball and positioning. He has the desire to have success in the Premier League, he is here to prove himself."

On Omar Marmoush: "We knew sooner or later he would score goals, he is a good finisher. Of course he has to improve, but now we see how he handles the compliments.

On Erling Haaland: "I have not spoken to the doctor, but I was scared when he went down. Maybe it's not bad as it could be."

Best we’ve played all season. Marmoush has to start every game now on in. Nico absolutely fantastic, looked like a clone of Rodri at times! Very very impressed with Khusanov thought he looked a lot more assured on the ball! Very happy today!

Yeah he's one of us 100% proven that this season. I couldn't have held it too much against him if he'd seen his arse amongst the disasters going on around him this season and started angling for a move to Spain. But he hasn't moaned even once, kept scoring the goals that have kept us in the mix and put his balls on the table signing that massive deal. Love the Viking to bits.

Refreshing, not sure if N'Castle were poor or we were just really good.

Impressed with:
Khusanov - Looked assured and aggressive, a decent passer between the lines too.

Stones - absolute class of a player, reads the game so well.

Savinho - best player on the pitch for me, everything good came through him.

Marmoush - Good finishing.
Nico - Good composure and positioning.
Gvardiol - Looks switched on.

Dissapointed with:
Foden - Doesn't affect the game from the middle as he should, Physical doesn't look like he can dominate that area nor does he do enough creatively.

Rico Lewis - Can't see what he offers playing central, passes sideways or backwards and dwells on the ball, think his best position would be as a defensive RW or offensive RWB

Ederson - prefer not to speak.

Who predicted that? Don't mind admitting i feared the worst today, would never have expected that performance. First half was the best football we've played all season. We finally played quick, direct football that suits what we've got up front and it led to goals galore and many other opportunities too. That's the football we need to be playing with this squad. Marmoush and savinho thrived off the fast tempo, haaland had one of his most involved games in a blue shirt and did everything you'd want from a complete striker.

Have to mention how poor newcastle were too for as good as we were. Thankful for it but i've not seen them that bad all season. Geordie support took 30 seconds to sing about empty sits as people were still entering the ground, only thing they sang all game, were crap throughout and had empty seats in abundance well before the final whistle.

We simply have to play in that manner for the remainder of the season. Huge boost in pursuit of top 5, lots of teams involved, they'll be slip ups by them all. Time for us to show we are a level or two above.
