Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Idk about you fellas but to me this win feels like a loss because of how we played, ESPECIALLY in the 2nd half. It frustrated me like nothing else this season. We had 1 week of rest and played at home (+should've been massively motivated because of Assna dropping points) while Newcastle had only 3 days and had to travel to f-ing Azerbaijan right before that and played away. Yet we were the ones who played like we haven't had a single day of rest! Midfield constantly overloaded, attack missing sitters left, right and centre while the fullbacks were leaking every time Newcastle was attacking. This was a horrendous display but I feel like barely anyone will talk about it because we somehow won in the end. Our physios definitely need sacking and Pep needs to play Cherki since minute 1, like how on earth are you keeping a player of his caliber on the bench despite him being the only one that brings any sort of creativity (and presence) in the midfield??
I think you're being overly gloomy mate.
3 points was The most important thing tonight. That's how trophies are won.
Main Pluses, our 2 brilliant young lads Khush and Nico.

Well done you Blues !!

Difficult win but a really important one.

Wasted about 10 counters due to poor final passes or wrong decisions, especially in the 2nd half.

The lads properly fought for the 3 points, though.

O'Reilly is a contender for our player of the season.
That final pass. With KDB we would have had at least 2 more in the second half.

Love, Guehi, love Kush, beginning to feel that this team is coming together.

It’s not all about the attack, it’s about when the team are on the back foot and they rally themselves together.

Fuckin’ take that, against a team that have just won 3 away in a row.

One team had played away in Europe, One team had a week off
Look i am happy as a pig in shit about the win, But i did fear this from City being sluggish and our 2nd half performance all season and tonight is wrong

We needed the points more than the performance, but I also think a 90-minute performance would send the message that we have more to come and we are ready. Arsenal will see that 2nd half tonight and fancy a fight against us

Only because he's still young and was being used as a makeshift left back.

Give him a couple more seasons in his real position and he will be worth the best part of £100m, especially in today's game.

Elanga cost Newcastle £55m...

Khusanov was a beast.

Serious question…..how much do you think a player like NOR would cost in today’s market ?

Unnecessarily stressful end to a game.

But those are the games that win trophies. Held their nerve in the end.

I know he didn't score but holy christ Haaland put a shift in there.
Semenyo's defensive work was great this game (his shots not so much though). Considering he doesn't really have to do it, he was always defending together with our backline. It was nice to see it.

Good to see Pep mentioning the fans’ contribution. We should have scored more but the second half syndrome kicked in yet again, but whenever did City make it easy for us fans?

Never leave Khus out against counter attacking teams again it nearly cost us.
Bernie is a warrior but too slow in the 2nd half legs are going for 90 mins of prem these days 60 yes
I have found it strange that we keep Bernardo on even when not playing well and clearly knackered. Especially against teams trying to play long balls and crosses into our box. Gonzalez and even Stones are decent in the air and more physical but Guardiola really doesn't seem to like playing them alongside Rodri for some reason.

Job. Done.

This is the business end of things, and we're usually very, very good at seeing it through. All we need to do is go on a run and it won't matter if Arsenal continue to wilt like spinach in a hot pan.

Bollocks. Attacked well in the first half, defended well in the second half, we are playing a different type of football than a few years ago, but if you can't enjoy big nights and big wins then what's the point.
