Lots of smug Geordies in the St. Peter's square area. Some think they're winning it today. Time to straighten them up.
Best fans in the world.
Oh the days in the 80s when they used to get 100 and 100s of thousands at every game....

Or was it about 13 thousand .
Fuck em

They're a myth. One club in the City so no competition. Deserted them when they were relegated until Keegan came in. Think by taking their tops off in cold weather showing their out of shape fat bodies they're better supporters than anybody else. Half wits

I remember going up there for an away game
Peter Beardsley was playing for them that would make it 88 ish maybe
I'm sure the attendance was about 15k.

Very true

That's always the argument I've had with geordies when they say they get great crowds. Historically it's untrue and even if it was, so what? There's no other clubs in that city except non league. Their support would be much less if they had 2 decent size clubs like Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham etc.

Apart from Sunderland, the nearest club is Boro, about 40 miles away.

Newcastle have a huge area of Newcastle, Durham and right up Northumberland towards Scotland, no big clubs in that area. They must have the largest catchment area for a single club to get fans supporting their nearest big team without much competition from nearby clubs. Putting into perspective, their old attendances are shocking

I went in 86 before they went off to the World Cup. We had a right firm going that day and got off at York on way back.
