LOL, I have been a member on there for ages never post in non City related topics, they are a good set, and it is a good forum, I am a member of quite a few non City forums, but always with the same user name, and I never cause trouble, yes fans being fans always get wound up by an opposite opinion

The funnier thing was the "empty seats" song, because firstly they didn't take the full allocation of tickets in the first place, and secondly there were empty seats in their end.

Also they clearly don't look around their own stadium when they have a home game, against Stoke there were 5000 less than we had yesterday, and that is some 10000 less than capacity.

I think we can all remember visiting a gloomy and half-empty St James' Park in the old days when it looked like this:

However, a cursory check shows that it wasn't as long ago as I thought! Assuming this site is accurate the world's most loyal fans' average over a season actually doubled in number in just three years (1990-1993). Of course they were promoted in that time but ground improvements saw that average rise by a further 50% by 2000/01 to produce a threefold average rise in gates in a decade.

That is the most ill-informed chant ever!

Newcastle upon Tyne, population (metro) 879996. Number of professional football clubs; ONE.
Manchester, population (metro) 2547700. Number of professional football clubs; EIGHT (Bury, Stockport, Rochdale, Oldham, Wigan, Bolton, Manchester City, Manchester United - two League 2, two Lg1, four Prem Lg, one of which is the biggest club in the world!).

"Where we you when you were shit?"
1991: Newcastle struggling at the bottom of Division Two what is now the Championship (terrible name for a second division!). Attendance average: 16879.
1999: City struggling in mid table in Division Three what was Division Two at the time and now League One. Attendance average: 28273. The best ever average in that division, still! Better than Leeds, another one club city.
In the same year City's biggest rivals had the best season ever in their history winning the treble. There was no Newcastle Rovers winning a treble in 1991!

"Where were you when you were pretty good?" (comparing when both teams finished 5th)
2004: Newcastle PL 5th place. Average attendance: 51966
2010: Manchester City PL 5th place. Average attendance: 45513
A difference of 6453. In 2004 no other clubs in Newcastle did anything because there aren't any. In 2010 Rochdale were promoted and had their best home and away attendaces for decades, Bolton got a very good manager and started playing decent football for the first time in decades, Wigan stayed up and got a great manager who has them playing nice football, Manchester United finished second and won the League Cup.

At least they made a noise.
Rather have them than the likes of Wigan.

Indeed. The Toon get triple the fans that Wigan do.

As I said above Wigan are in a metro city that has 7 other professional football clubs, one is us, one is the biggest in the world. There are also a number of Liverpool and Everton fans in Wigan. And Wigan is a rugby league town. Wigan were in the same league as Altrincham not that long ago so most if their town would support other clubs. Wigan get a decent support considering all that.

Newcastle are in a city on their own. A city bigger than Dortmund (a one club city) by really not that far off double. Dortmund get really not that far off double the attendance of Newcastle!
