It must fucking eat him up inside to see what Rooney, Di Maria, Van Persie etc are on a week, especially given the fact that he is keeping them in 3rd. If they do finish in the CL spot this year (very likely), he will be responsible more than any other player for that (obviously if he doesn't have a ridiculous drop in form!). At this moment in time I'd say he is probably their most important player.

They will certainly bid for Bale in the summer whether they can stop De Gea heading back to Madrid is very debatable even if he does sign a new deal.
