Next season it’s time to admit

Zinchenko doesn’t get injured we go through. Delph plays to the whistle we go through. Laporte hasn’t made a mistake all season yet gifts them goals. As usual in this cup, we get no luck whatsoever. Our defence just goes to shambles.

The quad was always more than a possiblity, but you cannot prepare, train all week, rotate players, AND legislate for world class players missing sitters or fuckin' up a pen attempt! Two pens go in and we march on, still in one comp and breathing space in another. No matter how much Pep wants to achieve personal perfection he is still left to trust world class players with doing their job. Unfortunately, shit will continue to happen to the most prepared, the most technical and gifted players!

I'm probably alone here but I'd enjoy an fa cup win as much as getting to the final of the CL.
Not alone. I’ve only ever seen us win the FA Cup once and we’ve only won it twice in 62 years. The CL will come when we’re good enough, defensively we gave away four easily preventable goals over two legs against Spurs - tells me we’re not ready to win the CL!

Have we really got to the point where we're so arrogant that we'd throw cup competitions in order to win the most corrupt one?

We will never be allowed to win the CL, we could rest our strongest XI for every game except CL games and still never win it.

Shit happens on the pitch. Defenders make mistakes, attackers miss chances. That goes both ways too. What Pep can control is priorities and team selection for each game. Playing KDB against Brighton then resting him against Spurs. Playing Delph. Not giving Sane 180 minutes to run at Trippier. These are costly errors that have been influenced by the sheer number of games we have.

You’re definitely on your own.

I hope.

If we look at what it amounts to in it's simplest form it is nothing moreorless than City winning a football match. I have thoroughly enjoyed every victory! Some a little more than others but my enjoyment was hitting the ceiling at winning the Caraboa even though the game was dour! I suspect that were we to beat someone in the CL final, Uefa permitting, in a game similar to the Carabao final in its lack of goals, and general edge-of-seat excitement, my enjoyment would be the usual - City win!

What is arrogant about prioritizing cup competitions? Most top clubs do it.

I’m as upset as anyone about the handball last night and especially the Liverpool games last season but to say we’ll never be allowed to win it is rubbish.

We just failed to beat a lesser team in the QF for the third year running. Something has to change.

One of the problems we have with the League Cup is what happened in Pep's first season when we drew the rags. Pep played a typical early round team in that game with a few youngsters and fringe players and we got knocked out. He then got a lot of criticism for that team and losing that stung him a bit. He has always gone strong as a result hence we haven't lost in the competition since.

Literally saying "we are above winning the league and FA cups" is very arrogant, IMO.

I personally feel the league cup should be scrapped anyway, it is odd to have 2 domestics cup competitions, and far too much football going on. But while we're in it, we have to play strong sides and win it.

When did the FA Cup or League Cup affect us in the Champions League this season?

I think the idea that we rested players for Spurs last week isn't true, all the changes were due to injuries or bringing people back from injuries.

I still think we should have started with Bernardo in Dave’s position and Leroy out wide

agree with you, certainly with respect to the silva's, heard an analogy on the radio the other day from a city fan who said sadly merlin is getting affected by date of birth disease, it was bound to happen but still sad to see

We should definitely play the B-team in the league cup. But if we sign some good new players this summer. Our squad will be again capable of challenging on 4 fronts. We didn't go out of the CL because of our squad depth.

That the quadruple isn’t going to happen and play reserves and youth players in the two domestic cups. It’s been a heck of a ride and something the club can be extremely proud of.

But we cannot put ourselves in a position again where we play a full strength team in the FA Cup one day and have to rest players a few days later in a CL quarter final.

I know how some will react to this post, especially those that dislike the CL. But when domestic cups become detrimental to success in bigger competitions then something has to give.

For me it will depend on what we achieve this season.....I would ‘settle’ for PL and CL titles next season..

I’d like to be in a position to make the comparison

FAC and FLC are second rate competitions most clubs field weakened teams due to other priorities that weakens them for me

I'd take winning the League Cup & FA Cup over winning the "Champions" League every year. If we don't manage it this year, the target for next season should be the domestic treble.

As the League cup has brought us 4 trophies in recent years and doesn’t have a semi final at Wembley, I am all for that one being retained as a priority. He plays weakened sides in that one anyway until the final. It gives all the squad plenty of games too.

The FA cup at the business end of the season though I would play a similar weakened side every round and just hope for the best.

I’m pretty sure the owners, the manager and every single player would rather win the Champions League though.
