with 4 realistic signings...

---------------Given---------------
Boateng--Kompany--Lescott--Clichy
--Johnson--DeJong--Barry--DiMaria--
--------Tevez--Higuain-------------

Very good call apart from i'd buy Snjeider in place of Barry n think Joe Hart deserves a chance other than that bang on mate, few more additions to the squad for a title push
Agree, Snjeider is the man. Much better option than Gerrard.

---------------given---------------
zabaleta-boateng--kompany-bonucci
--------------de jong--------------
a.johnson-----gourcuff-------bellamy
-----------tevez----torres----------

Boatang will be first choice right back - Kompany / Lescott for me but another centre half would not suprise me.

DJ can tackle but cant pass - means that the attacking midfield player has to come back to pick it up deep - play Barry

Torres - show my arse

And Bellamy - who knows but personally i think he could be gone also

As we will have lots of games, it will require players who can play in many positions and the team will alter a lot. We will have a much better squad to deal with the games than we did in 2008-09 when that Hamburg game came when we had lots of injuries.

What about giving this a go:

Hart/Given
Boateng Kompany Lescott
De Jong
M. Johnson (if fit) Vieira (if he can run)
A. Johnson Bellamy/SWP/New buy
Tevez Ade/New player

In a 3-1-4-2 formation

Wont play 3 defensive - Mancini is Italian not a fookin idiot - personally i like a 4 - 4 - 1 - 1 with Tevez playing just behind the main striker

---------------GIVEN------------
MAICON-BOATENG-LESCOTT-LAHM
--------------Y.TOURE------------
JOHNSON----GOURCUFF---DI MARIA
----------TEVEZ---IBRAHIMOVIC---

BENCH:- Hart, Kompany, Barry, Hamsik, Ireland, Bellamy, Higuaín.

THIS is what we need :-)

I think Boateng is brought in to be a CB. He's an adequate RB but probably nothing super special.

Blimey 9 new players I know were rich but come on. Good team though.

-- Mon May 10, 2010 9:08 pm --

We can't have a team full of foriegn players we're going to need a mix so I'll go for this team but TBH there's so many to choose from.

Hart

Boating Kompany Chellani or Cahill Lescott

De Jong

Johnson Sjneider Bellers

Tevez

Higuain

Bench: Given, M. Johnson, L. Donavan, Boyata, Adebayor

---------------Given/Hart---------------
Maicon--Kompany--Boateng--Lahm
Johnson --Cambiasso--Gerrard --Bellamy
---------------Tevez---------------
-------------Benzema---------------

subs
Given/Hart
Lescott
De Jong
Ireland
Gourcuff
Higuain

Assuming we are going to get Boateng, then I'd agree with most on here that we should make centre midfield and left back the priorities. Sneijder would obviously be great, otherwise Gerrard, perhaps Van de Vaart. For left back I'm not sure - Lahm obviously woudn't come, saw someone put Clichy which might be a decent shout. Otherwise perhaps even Kieron Gibbs - surely he must be looking to make a breakthrough as a first-team regular this year, and he's not going to do it with Clichy there.

Given how many games we are going to play next season (assuming a decent run in the Europa!), I think it's going to be important to add more options, not only in terms of like-for-like replacements, but also in terms of different systems/formations. So, for example, if we sign a new left back and top central midfielder we might play:

--------------Given/Hart-----------

Boateng---Kompany----Lescott-----New

A. Johnson----New-----Barry-------Bellamy

--------------Tevez
---------------------Adebayor

Or a front six of:

----------------De Jong
-----------New---------Barry
A. Johnson-------------------Bellamy
-----------------Tevez

Or perhaps even:

A. Johnson---De Jong---Barry---Bellamy
--------------New (e.g. if Gerrard)
-----------------Tevez

If we were to make any other signings, I would go for a striker with genuine pace - not sure who, but someone to give us a different option, and who could play up front either with Tevez tucked in behind him, or alongside Adebayor. Beyond that, I think any further signings will depend entirely on the attitude of certain players over the summer and their willingness to knuckle down - if Richards, Wright-Phillips, Ireland, even Robinho come back in willing to work and looking like getting back to somewhere close to their best, then I honestly don't think we would need anymore signings to be genuinely challenging on all fronts (If they don't, then obviously we will need to look for other signings). Assuming the first of the two teams above, our squad options would be:

GK: Given/Hart

RB: Richards/Zabaleta
LB: Bridge (?)
CB: Toure, Onuoha (+ Boateng)

RW: Wright-Phillips (Weiss?)
CM: De Jong/Ireland/M. Johnson (?)
LW: Robinho (+ A. Johnson)

ST: New (+ Bellamy)

Certainly enough for a top 4 challenge in my opinion.
