Yes, Undercover was the name of the band and they played a mimed version of Baker Street at half-time. I don't think they would've been in a rush to come back to Maine Road after the, ahem, stick they received from plenty of us on the Kippax.)

Yeah it was a full force "WHO THE FUCKING 'ELL ARE YOU" ??!!!

I don't know the timing of the incidents but Quinn was sent off 'midway through the first half' according to a report I have of the Boro-City game on 19th August.

Mick Adams was sent off for Southampton against QPR that same night.

I don't (as yet) have timings for either sending off.

That timing for Quinn's red card matches my memory of it, I'd have said around 25 mins.

I know I shouldn't think like this but my 'gut' feel is that Quinn was not the first. It would have received quite a bit of comment at the time and I'm sure I'd have remembered that (and written that in various books). As the game was significant because of what happened to Lakey - part of the reason Quinn was sent off - I'm sure it would have formed part of my story of the game in Manchester The Greatest City in 1997.

The fact I didn't write that the sending off was the first in the PL (nor did Quinn in his own biog) suggests Adams was the first. Similarly, there are a few comments on Adams being the first in Southampton related material (though I've not seen a time). It's only those Q&A internet sites that quote both and that's probably because they've seen a list of sendings off (although they get the date and game details wrong completely when they say it was City-QPR!).

I'd dig out my 1992-93 progs but they're stored away and I've got a lot of writing to focus on at the moment (City fans will love what I'm writing, hopefully).

Micky Adams's wikepedia page says he was the 1st but the source cited is dodgy.

I checked premerleague.com and there was nothing under player profiles or for 1992-93 season.

It will be Adams, it's just a case of finding the proof.

I remember the QPR game well. The "Sky Dolly Birds" throwing tee shirts into the kippax and having them thrown back! There was a great sound system at the platt lane end, no stand there at the time as we were waiting for the Umbro air raid shelter to be built and the fireworks at the end of the match, everyone out of there houses wondering WTF was going on, seems such a long time ago now.

I tell the story in "Farewell To Maine Road" of the nearby resident who turned up at Maine Road the day after accusing the Club of killing his parrot (a bit like a Monty Python sketch). He claimed the fireworks gave his parrot a heart attack and he fell off his perch!

gary in any of your books do you tell the story of 'the kippax last stand' as it was around that time that i started going on a more regular basis.

Yep. It's covered in both "Manchester The Greatest City" and "Farewell To Maine Road" - the second book is probably of most interest as that talks of fan related matters more than first team activities. It includes material on the last day of the Kippax as well as features on demonstrations; chants; Maine Rd's most significant/memorable games; and includes some very rare images and material on Maine Road.

The book's been out of print since 2004 (3,000 copies were produced and they sold out within a year) but it occasionally appears on Amazon though it's not usually that cheap (originally cost £24.95):

Amazon seem to have a 1st edition Greatest City at £33ish (original price £24.95):

Cover images of some of my books (including the 2 mentioned) appear at: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=149358&id=266700661882" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1 ... 6700661882</a>

Hope this helps. You can always order the books via your local library.

Thanks for that. At some point over the next year there will be a Big Book Of City 2 - same basic idea but entirely different content (some of which will be determined by what happens this season!). It'd be worth watching out for. As will "The Journey: Rebuilding Manchester City" - both books are likely to be available at discounted prices and as subscriber editions. Anyone who is a 'fan'/'likes' my publisher's facebook page will hear about the offer as soon as it can be announced - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/James-Ward-Publishing/266700661882" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.facebook.com/pages/James-War ... 6700661882</a>
