For those of you who do not know of Nick Drake, he was a singer songwriter who suffered heavily from depression, and died at the age of 26 years. Due to his depression, he was extremely shy and turned away from any media attention or record companies, so his genius music was not discovered completely until after his death 37 years ago (he sold little more than 3,000 records whilst alive).

His talent with the guitar was not only phenomenal, but unique. If he hadn't died at such a young age he could have been an all time great, and could quite comfortably have brushed shoulders with the likes of Bob Dylan; the music Drake wrote was in my opinion better than that of Dylan's.

I just wanted to post this up here in order to raise a little bit of awareness, and hopefully some fellow blues (supporters of other clubs, perhaps) will have him in their prayers on Friday.

R.I.P Nick Drake - 19 June 1948 – 25 November 1974. Thank you guys.

I was 'introduced' to his stuff about 6 years ago and was immediately intrigued. Then a poster on here (blue2112), when he knew of my interest, very kindly sent me a video that told me more about Nick Drake.
Some very haunting songs that I liked even upon first hearing.

Good post by the way, he's someone who deserves to be listened to by more.

He is one of very, very few musicians who I would like to bring back to ask a few questions. His lyrics are, as you say, haunting, and have certainly played a significant part in altering certain decisions I have made in my life so far.

He was certainly a unique character as far as we know, and his music is beautiful.

I have Five Leaves Left, Bryter Later and Pink Moon, all on original 1960/70s vinyl bought at the time when I was a student, all now worth a fortune. I still listen to them.
He truly was a wonderfully talented writer but I doubt he would have "made" it due to his absolute terror of performing in public.
If you ever get the chance to hear this guy do his material I recommend it.

Me and my dad watched a documentary which incorporated his music very easily into his story, amazing music, not heard it in possibly two years but I can still remember how haunting it is.

For those too lazy to search them out ;-)

Nick Drake is a fuckin' overrated, dull, folk rock singer that people who 'think' that they are hip like to like.

Each to their own, but having listened to Nick Drake for over 20 years, i don't consider myself hip, i just think his music is timeless. I don't know why you have to write such an aggressive post on someones taste in music, does it make you that insecure?
