i really should be somewhere else
just watching big brother and noticed Nick Leeson on it.

I was aware when he was arrested over the baring bank thing that he was a city fan and think I remember City sending him merchandise.

Does anyone know anymore, like how is he a city fan being from down south which isn’t all that common

Has anyone seen him at any games etc

I seem to remember him saying he became a City fan after watching the 76 league cup final as a young lad.

He was from Watford. Reckons all the kids supported Watford or other London clubs so, to be different, he latched on to city and says the Tueart overhead goal was a clincher.
Apparently he’s good mates with Gary Owen as well.
He had to be a City fan, if you think about it. It’s January 16th 1995, he’s losing money at Barings Bank and, essentially, he bets that the Singapore and Japan stock markets won’t move much overnight, to get some cash back. On the early morning of the 17th the Kobe earthquake hits and the Asian stock markets fall apart. He then takes increasingly large positions on the Japanese stock market recovering. It doesn’t and the losses end up at over £800M and the oldest merchant bank in the U.K. is declared insolvent and shuts down.
I get sweaty palms if I have £25 on a horse!

He became Chairman of a club in Ireland didn’t he? I read the book on the downfall of Barings. Very interesting stuff. Unbelievable that one mans actions could do that.

Made me laugh when the pyschic woman said she could never remember her bank pin number and he said he would remember it for her if she told him

He was commercial manager of all things for Galway United from 2005 to 2011. I think he does a good few after dinner speeches now.

Yeah, got a hug from him outside the Fernhurst pub.
He was once a guest at the Prestwich and Whitefield branch.
I think he was made honoury treasurer at the Prestwich branch @cyberblue can tell us more....
I don't think it was City sending him stuff but Dave Wallace sent him items and copies of King Of The Kippax and he write back to Dave with an interview

Yes he was a City fan before he got knicked. Dave Wallace from King of the Kippax wrote to him and sent him copies of KK while he was in the Singapore prison .When he was released Dave invited him to a charity event in the Platt Lane complex .Members from the Prestwich&Whitefield were there and invited him to a supporters meeting .After that he came to Prestwich regulary and even played in a charity football match for the branch against Droylsden Supporters. and came to a race night where we introduced him to Gary Owen .We had novelty cheques made out which he signed and yes we made him honoury treasurer. Had many a drink with him in Prestwich and took him in the Albert near the ground where he was mobbed The day after we were promoted against Blackburn loads of us from Prestwich went on the piss with him and Alistar Mackintosh in Wetherspoons in town

Sat a few seats away from him at Watford a good few years back. I'm sure Noel Gallagher was there too but I could be very wrong !!

(Accidental) hero. The fact that he inadvertently took down a merchant bank and supports city and was played by Ewan McGregor. Does it get any better? Should be a statue of him somewhere.

Was that the 1-1 when Pearce was managing us? My god that was a boring game. Think Vassell scored and Pearce threw a water bottle at Sam Harris the Dancing Plant.

The only amusing part of the match was chanting something like, "Who the f@#@£#@ hell are you?" to Noel Gallagher.

He got to shag Anna Friel in the film too! Well sort of....

For me he was a bloke who just got completely out of his depth and it was the banks fault for not having adequate controls
In place!
