So maybe the £30million agreement in place with the rags isn't so certain after all. Quality player it has to be said!

Manchester City are keeping a close eye on Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan, according to a report from Portugal.

Record claims that the Premier League outfit dispatched a scout to observe the Argentine in Benfica's 2-0 victory against Santa Clara on Wednesday in the League Cup.

Gaitan has been strongly linked with a new challenge after an impressive start to his second season at the Estadio da Luz.

Manchester United are also tracking the 23-year-old, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson confessing that he is a fan of the former Boca Juniors star.

However, Gaitan's agent stressed last month that he was unaware of any talks between Benfica and the Red Devils over the transfer of his client.

Gaitan, who joined Benfica in 2010, has a €45 million release clause attached to his contract, which expires in 2016.

Doesn't he play on the right so if we're looking at him surely AJ's days are numbered. Shaqiri isn't bad either he's got pace and can cross.

Juan Iturbe is better prospect,IMO.

Iturbe is only a prospect, Gaitan is a quality established player, it's a bit like comparing Denis Suarez to David Silva.

He's more than a winger he's more like Silva starting on the right then drifting in he's got 9 assist so far.

Why would they need ANOTHER winger, they've got Nani, Young, Valencia, Park (OK, I know :p). They've got a LOT more problems in central midfield.......

He can also drift inside so the rags could use him like we use Silva if they chose, although Ferguson never seems to have much creativity in the middle, it's always pass it out wide, cross into the box.

Big improvement on AJ on current form. Argentinian would feel right at home Pablo put in a good word.
