I have a lot of sympathy for Otamendi, because I think most of his problems come down to the fact he's simply not fast enough to play in this high line. He knows it, the attackers know it, and that leads to him making some really rash decisions and gambles because he knows any knock past him and he's out of the game.

Danilo is not a CB, but he's got the pace and is comfortable defending in wide areas, so I wonder if he might take that LCB role from Otamendi vs. pacey opposition in the future - Danilo-Stones-Kompany would be something I'd like to see at least once just to see how it would do.


Having said that... he did just about manage to get through a game against the fastest attack we'll face in the league. It was terrifying but they kept a clean sheet and hopefully they'll get some confidence from that.

Or put Otamendi in the middle. With Danilo Left and Stones or Kompany on the right.

Its wins in the air, anticipates interceptions better and passes well out of the back. Put him in the middle and you negate his main weakness, a lack of pace.

Don't trust him. When he's not playing alongside Kompany, he looks exposed every time. Anyone with a bit pace playing against him will have a field day. We need an upgrade because he's our most senior defender if Kompany is out for a bit, should be priority in January.

Look mate, I've had countless arguments over otamendi with you. In my opinion, I'm not clueless. He has his good games otamendi, but now Kompany is out, I don't trust our defence. An upgrade is needed and for its otamendi who has to go for a top centre back to come in. He always looks vulnerable to me. I don't rate stones that much either, but I think stones can be coached.

But why do you think Pep is using Otamendi on the right and not Stones who is younger and faster ?

No no no no... I didn't say you were clueless. I've had enough discussion with you. It would be clueless for me to claim you were. But saying Otamendi only plays well with Komps is laughable. Most of his best games were without Kompany.
