Nige Fail.

Papers don't let facts in the way of a good story. Bobby won't let him go and the board won't want it either. This is the same site that "Micah Richards said he was the best full back in the world"

City would be retarded to let this man go. Him, Kompany, Hart, Zabaleta, Richards etc. form the spine of the team.

I kinda wish he didn't speak to the press about it. Clearly he is frustrated though.
He is adding pressure from City to work out a new contract fast.

From City's point of view it would be ideal for them to renegotiate a new contract next year (it's clear he wouldn't leave and would take a big salary hike next summer). This at least gives City 1 more year at his current wages

not read most of the replies but why would a player whos starting week in week out at a champions league club, whos said in the past he loves the club the fans etc. and wants to retire here, whos contracted till 2013 make a story in the papers... stupid twats lol
Because as that player states with his own words, the contract offered isn't good enough.
this should be news if his contract ran out in january or the end of the season... or if he was now a free agent... hes got 2 season left on his current deal so theres loads of time, im sure if we really want dejong to stay theyll make him an offer he cant refuse, dejongs said he wants to stay, he'll sign

It's news because De Jong decided to publicly comment on it, essentially to force the club's hand.

His comment that "any new contract has to be right for both sides", demonstrates that he was unhappy with the length of the contract, or more likey, the wages.

Despite De Jong's importance to the side and the manner in which he plays, that shouldn't be mistaken for a love of us or our club. He says the right things in the press (apart from this occasion), and is a likeable character. As a result, people have become fond of him.

But we shouldn't kid ourselves that he sees playing for us as anything more than a profession, a career. And his recent comments show that he's not immune to making cynical career decisions.

He wasn't happy with the club's contract offer, the negotiations stall, so he goes public with his grievances - While saying all the right things about wanting to commit himself in the process.

He's no idiot. Just another example of a cynical move from a professional footballer, but everyone refuses to acknowledge it as it's De Jong.

I'd be interested to see the reaction had Barry come out with the same comments.

He is a great player for us but he also has a very bad image in football these days.

And think he is also earns a lot right now of course he wants a little more like every player, dont really see where he would get bigger money than here. We wouldnt sell to another English team, Italians wouldnt pay thim more, only the two spanish mega clubs could offer him bigger money but dont think they would go after him in the near future.

So its a small issue, we wanted to have his sevice for years and he wanted a little bit better offer. Which is OK seeing that Tevez earn who the hell know how much, reading like 250k + bonuses per week.

And De Jong maybe on 100k per week and he is nearly as important as Tevez in the team, tactic, etc.

Plus De Jong is nowhere near that embarassing off the field like Tevez with all the cryings, moanings, problems.

Man City talisman De Jong latest player to issue quit threat

NIGEL DE JONG last night told Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini he is prepared to follow Carlos Tevez out of the door after talks over a new deal stalled.

Nigel De Jong said:

The Mirror might as well be MUTV. Weird how they got that interpretation after he said he wants to be here for his whole career.

Funny you should quote that. He's done exactly that with his contract negotiations, seems the irony was lost on him.
