Nigel Farage

I find that people who do not think they are 'political' are right-wing when you actually analyse their beliefs. Of course, they would deny it but typically they are small C conservatives who dislike change and yearn for an imagined past when life was 'better', the sun always shined and we had uniformed park keepers.

It is a canard that only the 'left' are political. Wanting to keep the status quo (or revert to 1958 England) is just as 'political' as wanting a Marxist revolution.
There is no such thing really as right or left wing because most people belong to elements of both. We've only seen a Tory government win recently because of a single issue (Brexit) but that issue cannot truly be considered a right-wing thing because many people on the left were in favour of it.

Brexit and Tory voting doesn't mean that the whole country is full of right-wingers because if that was true then how is it possible that Labour will perhaps win a landslide at the next election? Surely the Tories would just win everytime? It's important not to attach an identity to people either way.

I've voted Tory in the past but next time I'll probably vote Labour. I don't agree with everything that Labour stands for but at the moment they appeal to me on most things. If Labour are crap in government and the Tories sort themselves out then I may vote Tory again because why not? This probably means that I sit in the centre or maybe I just don't really care that much about who I vote for to worry about it.

I think most people actually just want a bit normality and peace and quiet because politics is often in the news and it has recently been a topic for nasty arguments. After what happened with the debate around Brexit, my opinion really is that politics is just a poison pill. If you get too involved then you poison yourself from the inside out and you just come to hate people for no real reason which is sad.

I think the interference conspiracy theories are massively overstated. It doesn't explain why Biden won the last US election, I'm guessing there was no interference whatsoever in that one because they came to the 'right' result? The Tories will lose the next election and Labour will likely be in power so this interference thing obviously isn't going well?

I think what certain people don't like is that most people have a centrist opinion which is then divided by issue. Immigration divides people but it doesn't mean they should be pigeon-holed on the left or right. You can be a socialist who doesn't like immigration, Corbyn just for example was quite famously very anti-EU. In today's world you'd throw him in with the likes of Farage on the hard-right which is really bizarre.

This pigeon-holing is exactly how Labour lost swathes of the north. It has nothing to do with interference, the worst offenders for this view are those on the hard-left who are so entrenched that they can't think of anything else to do except call everyone else thick.

I don't really care for the likes of Farage, he tried to become an MP and failed miserably and then you have people like Lawrence Fox who last week failed miserably. It's proven that these people actually have literally zero power or influence beyond their own minority base where they're nothing more than grifters. Given their irrelevance nowadays, why the Russian state or anyone else for that matter would put any resources into these people is beyond me.
Corbyn was very much like the traditional left have always been in being anti-EU. Yet he could never say what he really wanted to surrounding the referendum because people would have crucified him and many wouldn't have understood why he held the views he does because they think being anti-EU is right-wing.

But Socialists have never been on board with the EU and have always viewed it as an anti-democratic, neo-liberal entity that serves a purpose just for its own benefit and the benefit of a few large rich countries yet strips talent and wealth from smaller countries snd they’re left with the bottom of the barrel and they struggle economically.

Yet if a socialist who’s always stood by their left-wing views on the EU, went in the ‘anyone think Brexit’s a winner thread’ and said that, they’d be branded a right-wing Farage bot.

It’s the same with immigration. A lot of traditional left-wing people want strict controls on immigration. Yet if they mentioned that on this forum, they’d be branded a right-wing gammon by some on here. Yet have a look at some proper socialist views and you’ll see that strict immigration controls can be part of left-wing politics.

The branding of working-class and left-wing people on their opinions as ‘right-wing’ definitely turned many people away from the left last decade, and too many on the left haven’t learnt from that since and it’s still part of (maybe more than ever?) their attitudes.

I find the lack of understanding from the many on the left with the way Labour are trying to win the next GE as short sighted. And with that lack of understanding comes the branding of Keir, sorry, ‘Keith’ Starmer as a Tory and Labour as traitors to the left. But Keir Starmer is not a Tory and Labour are simply finding the best (/only!) way to get into power.

This is what they want (and by ‘they’ I mean not us, not the majority, but the establishment, those with the most money and power) , and a lot of the left fall for it far too easily. They want us all squabbling and fighting between ourselves, calling each other names; division. They want some people on the left to label those with views that aren’t on their exact point on the political spectrum as Nigel Farage sympathisers or supporters because it suits them to keep us at odds with each other.

When you can be arsed you knock out a half decent salient post mate ;)

All that is reasonable and has a lot of validity.
This thread is about Farage though and he’s a dangerous lowlife grifter who has been given far too much attention and airtime to spread his bile.
He’s a fully fledged **** and those who seek to defend or support him are not far behind.

Again, superb post and insight.

The 'traditional left' was wrong on Brexit, and, insofar as they supported it, have inflicted suffering and loss on the very people they are supposed to champion.

Outdated delusion is wrong, whether the deluded person calls themselves a libertarian or a Marxist. Just as some nationalists are stuck in 1901 visions of Empire, some so-called socialists are stuck in the 1950s in the days of Vic Feather and his mates.

You have to go forward not backwards. Denmark and Sweden are just two countries in the EU where ordinary people are far better off than they are here, and the tenets of socialism (or social democracy) are much more obvious in the conduct of the state.

Whatever you think of him , banks cancelling people because they dont agree with their politics (hes right wing lets not forget, hes not exactly mussollini) is a very dangerous route to go down.

It was a silly , misinformed decision from the head of natwest thats now cost her her job.

Yeah he might be a prick, a grifter, a bit of a knob, but natwest got this wrong
