No european football next season

We can't rush him for Thursday surely?! Yarmola impressed me on Thursday and today he looked a handful. I would not play Kravets personally, maybe bring him on in Second half if the game is in our favour

Well, Kravets recovered from his injury 6-8 months ago, so he is more than fine. Gazzaev didn't use him due to Andre (nice they off-loaded him to France. hope they will sell Guilerme as well. those Brazilians are no good). He should be fine - he has good pace and acceleration so will be very useful on counter-attacks.

As for the starting eleven on Thursday and possible Milevskiy substitution - most probably Semin will bring on extra defensive midfielder (Harmash or Yussuf) or Ninkovich (in that case Yarmolenko will swap positions with him). I bet it will be Ninkovich from the start and substitution for Kravets later on (or vice versa).

Trying to get my head round it so could be wrong.

top 4 get automatic qualification to UCL. 5th-7th Qualify for EL. Birminigham have won Carling cup so now only 5th and 6th qualify for EL. If United get to the final of the F.A cup then Stoke or Bolton will qualify for EL meaning only 5th place will get european football. If Liverpool then win the EL this season my understanding is that the lowest finishing club in the domestic league that loses their european place. If we did happen to come 5th in the league then liverpool would take that final spot and City wouldn't have any european football next year.

Another if to throw into the equation. City could even finish 4th and if the team below them (either Chelsea or spurs) win the champions league then not only would we not get champions league, we wouldn't even get europa league. The worrying things about these 'ifs' is that none of them are that unlikely. I think I've got all that right anyway.

For these reason it is important to not get knocked out of the EL against Kyiv. Not get knocked out of the F.A cup by United and clinch 3rd position in the league.

Edit: on the positive side, it looking increasing likely that the red dippers, unless they win the EL will not have european football next season. Which when I realised that it gave me a chuckle.

FA Cup place is separate from the league placings.

There is always only two places via the league (5th & 6th). There is normally an extra place because the League Cup Winner is often from the top 6.

5th & 6th will always qualify for the UEFA Cup

That can't be right as that would mean potentially we could have 8 european places when I'm pretty sure we only have 7 available.

Right.
Top 3 = CL group stage.
Team #4 = CL play-off (final qualification round to group stage)
Team #5 = Europa League
Team #6-7 = Europa League (in case League and FA cups were taken by someone from Top 5)

Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure Man City will play in CL next year. 4th position will be secured and that's a question of qualification legs to get into group stage.

4th position doesn't secure champions league though.

Yes it does.

If the winner of the 2011 Champions' League fails to qualify then they are allocated an additional place.

5th will qualify for Europa along with the 2 Cup winners as long as they haven't already qualified for the CL.

The situation re the Europa League winners is different to the CL, Atletico Madrid qualified as holders this year but that didn't affect Spain's usual Europa allocation of 3 further places.
