No History but...

Two of my favourite matches came within a few weeks of each other, both away in the FA cup in 1988. The 2-2 at Huddersfield and the 1-1 at Blackpool.

They're memorable for the bedlam of last minute goals (setting me up for 99 & 2012) and also because they led to my first, post 81, experience of "we could win this, our name's on the trophy!!" I was absolutely buzzing after those games!

Naturally, we got beat in the quarter final by Liverpool 4-0!!!

The feeling I got after those two games is why I'll always love the FA Cup and why it pisses me off that the so called "history clubs" decide what history counts and what doesn't when they disrespect the competition!

Liverpool at home, our real home, Maine Road. I think it was boxing day 1985. Clive Wilson scored. We win 1 nil.

If anyone thinks liverpool are good now, in those days they dominated football. However they were respected more because we did not have the constant social media shite etc.

Also xmas time v Stoke City in Division 3. Won 2 one and went on a great run to make the play offs

Good shout Mayo.

I remember listening to the radio on the way home from that Liverpool game and Stuart Hall saying that the Great Escape film was on TV that afternoon and City had just done their own great escape as I think Clive’s goal was literally our only shot.

If I’m on the right Stoke game Lou Macari was manager and virtually the whole stadium was singing “shit on Lou Macari” for ages after we went in front.

Great memories:)

Trevor Morley's equaliser in the Bradford game with 5 minutes to go. 1-0 down and an automatic promotion place at stake, which we should have secured the week before at home to Bournmouth (3-1 up in that game before they made a comeback to draw 3-3).

2 2 at Hudersfield.....remember the crutch being thrown at the ref for sending of Mcnab !!

Same as the OP's memories but I'll add Paul Powers beauty at Villa Park against Ipswich in the semi final. Remember it also because Mum saved her Persil tokens for two railway tickets to get us up there.

Nice memory Ancoats, I bet it was mental in the paddock when that goal went in. I do love a good "mental" celebration but unfortunately footballs atmosphere has changed and those happy days are long gone.

Not really history but my first match in London was against Fulham. As a twelve year old it was the biggest adventure for me. For the life of me I cannot remember the other three urchins that I went down with. How we got from the station down to the Cottage evades me but we got split up at the ground and only two of us were stood outside when the City team arrived. I was amazed when Bill Leivers came over and gave us two tickets for the main stand. While we are talking history Bill is the only surviving member of the 56 cup winners. Memories that are priceless for me personally.

Obviously there's the Aguero, Kompany, 1-6, Centurions and Dickov moments... but...

Ali Benarbia's debut for me - regardless of the opposition it was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen from a City player. An utter masterclass. He'd only signed for us a few hours before the game and loads of people round us were asking who this kid was as they assumed he was a youth player. I remembered seeing him a few years ago for Monaco in Europe so I knew he was decent. But I wasn't expecting what I saw! His vision, touch and passing were nothing Birmingham could handle and no one else in that division could either. Within 10 minutes of the game starting you could see this guy was off the scale. People started bowing down singing "Ali! Ali!" at him. A truly phenomenal player and at his peak would get into this side, no problem.

I also loved Yaya's 2 goals against Newcastle away as I was watching it in a nightclub in Tynemouth surrounded by 300 rabid Geordies. I'll never forget that absolute rush of excitement going through me when he got the goals but not being able to say a word. He was one of those players who won games on his own.

Other favourites for me include Goater v Charlton where Horlock(?) lofts the ball to the edge of the penalty area and the Goat volleys it over the keeper into the net. From where I was sat it looked like the greatest finish I'd ever seen! Typical of the Goat it skimmed off his shin pads!! :) I also loved it when Danny Tiatto went wild after getting sent off v Norwich as well was great to watch! I'd have him at left back now, great player IMO. And Michael Tarnat's free kick v Blackburn.. I remember thinking "don't be a d**k and hit it from 40 yards out" and in it went!!

One of my earliest memories was in 1963 and wagging school and ending up blagging my way onto a Maynes coach to go the a cup replay game at Shrewsbury. We ended up losing the game 1-3. When I got into school the next day I was called into the Headmasters office and he told me he knew I had gone to the cup match because he said one of the teachers had seen me there. I knew he was lying because I know that was not true. I was only 12 years old then. I was City mad and the school was very much a united school. The headmaster was an ex united player(Lawrence Cassidy) Nobby Stiles was an ex pupil and Brian Kidd was there at the same time as me so there were only a few City fans there......But none were as daft as me. My first game was November 1960 against Blackburn......and that got me hooked on City.

Blues, i know we have no history whatsoever, but whats your favourite moment ever?

Mine, like most was the Dickov goal, overtaken by the Aguero goal, but then theres the Kompany goal, the 6-1, the Yaya goals, the fact we stopped chlesea and Liverpool from having invincible seasons.

But whats yours?
Leaving the modern era aside it has to be the 4-3 victory at Newcastle to win the league - my wife and I were there that day, as we were for the wins at Wembley over Leicester and West Brom
