Why isn't the whole nation mourning Gary Ablett the way they did Gary Speed.

He too was a top class footballer and by all accounts a decent bloke. He died fighting to his last breath to ward off a fatal illness whereas Speed chose to deprive his children of a father.

In my book Gary Ablett was far more deserving of a minutes silence

I agree there should have been a minutes silence alongside the armbands

But speed did play a record amount of times in the premier league and was still heavily involved and current. I think thats the difference.

Someone commits suicide = 700,000 news hits on your article indexed by google and 500,000+ more readers at the newspaper you work at.

Someone unfortunately dies of cancer = Who?

if you were Mcdonalds advertising dept would you wanna advertise your latest burger on the same page/website as a cancer sufferer?

It did cross my mind at the game last night.

I can only think he wasn't a media figure and for strange reason isn't considered as newsworthy.

I fully agree,he deserves more acknowledgement.

I thought about it, when I saw the armbands last night, too.

As he played with distinction for Liverpool, I was surprised there was no mention of it at the match last night.
