The owners of my workplace have took out the radio because they won't pay for a license (£260) WTF is that all about. I have listened to the radio at work for over 30 yrs, its like a bleedin morgue without it. PRS bastards.

XFM & Talkshite for me & Radio Manchester on matchdays

Its not a license as such, its for the Performing Rights Society (PRS). They argue that your place of work are using their member's (the songwriters) songs as a source of entertainment and because its playing to an audience of more than a couple, your place of work has to pay a yearly fee for the priviledge.

We are up in t'hills so can only get Radio 2, so, basically, we are paying to listen to Steve Wright, a guy I could quite easily murder with no remorse.

"Great show Steve"

Could you not just buy your own radio for about a tenner and say its a personal one? (although everyone else is listening to it)

I never knew that companies had to pay a fee to have a radio on

I think you're ok with headphones on but then you're probably contravening some health and safety rule. The best thing for smaller factories is just say you haven't got a radio and hope there's so few people to come around to check that you never get caught and even if they do come round hide the radio.
