No Summer Signings

I've got a funny feeling that we won't see ANY summer additions to the squad this year, or certainly none of any note.

Mancini has again reiterated his desire to get players in early to bed them into the squad as quickly as possible however all the papers this morning talk about City being in a sell to buy position especially with FFP being just around the corner.

We've already seen Hazard go to Chelsea, Kagawa and Powell go to United, Lavezzi rumoured to be going to PSG, AC Milan saying Thiago Silva is not going anywhere, Cavanni saying (apparently) he's not going anywhere and RVP's dad saying he's staying at Arsenal etc etc.

With our main rivals making early summer signings and our reputed targets not making any noises about coming to City, I just feel we might be in for a disappointingly quiet summer.

Thoughts?

I won't be particularly disappointed if it's a quiet summer as regards transfers.

We are the CHAMPIONS. By definition, we have a very strong, talented group of players already at our disposal.

If it's not broke and all that...

I think you need to go on the Transfer Forum and then realise we're actually signing every player in world football, or at least the ones who are good on Fifa12. Oh, and there's loads of youtube videos on there to watch too if you get bored.

Early days yet..........and The Euro's are on; the top players are concentrating on the tournament and will wait until their country is out of the competition.........

..............or am I being naive in thinking that the players in the Euro's are too concentrated on playing for their countries rather than their future wage packet ??

Managers ALWAYS say that, both last season and the season before Mancini said the same thing and both years we have had players joining after the season has started. Its not unlike them saying they won't be wripped off in the transfer window, no shit, like that's ever the plan!!

I agree that with the squad we have, do we really need too many additions?

If Tevez is staying then our forwards are the best four in the league no doubt about that. No needs there.

We have cover at both full back positions.

We have a great centre half pairing and a midfield that perhaps will only be weakened when Yaya goes off again.

If we have to buy then I think One top quality midfield/wide player and one CB who will put pressure on Kompany and Lescott. I dont think Kolo and Savic are the answer and that is where our main weakness is.

One problem we have will be the return of Adebayor unless the new manager at Spurs fancies him or we can ship him out somewhere.

So it would suggest a quiet summer. Mubarak has already said this would be the case, a few tweeks to the squad was it? I expect 2 possibly 3 to join, all young yet of high quality and experience.
I am perfectly happy with this, as we have now seen Sheikh Mansour is in this for the long haul, not some kind of dick measuring contest like certain other owners.

We will not spend money for the headlines or Mansour's ego. If Mancini wants 3 players at £5 million rather than 3 headline grabbing multi million pound signing, this is what will happen. I personally can't think of many players that would improve us without being silly, yes Messi, Inesta or Ronaldo would improve us, but this is not a dream. We need cover not a replacement at centre half and some pace and width, in my opinion and possibly a young midfielder to learn the ropes from 3 very experienced internationals.

Sell to buy will certainly not be the case, although it would be ideal to replace the deadwood with young fresh quality.
I don't expect massive changes and would not be surprised if we signed players we had not been linked with in the red tops.

Our quietness in the market would indicate to me that A, Mancini is on holiday certainly not working. B, I would also expect most of the club's hierarchy are away from their posts too.
C, that we are interested in players currently involved in the Euro's or are on their summer breaks.
Targets will have been identified long ago, mid way through last season I would expect.
We will have targets to boost the squad and similarly targets if we need to replace players who may well leave.
I doubt a left back is in our primary targets, but of Kolarov leaves it obviously leaves a gap, a gap that will be filled..

With 'Arry now having departed spuds, I wouldn't be at all surprised at a move for Bale. Though Bale these days plays out on the wing rather than as a full back, he would be employed to fulfill either role.

Window ain't open yet. Proper clubs keep it stum until wondow opens.

Not open? I thought it was.

So when does it open?
Isn't it July 1st

Although, in England, the transfer window formally opens on 1 July, transfers between clubs in the same association can take place as soon as the last competitive fixtures for the season have been played. However, many transfers will not be completed until 1 July because many players' contracts expire on 30 June. Outside of the transfer window, a club may still sign players on an emergency basis, usually if they have no goalkeeper available. Special dispensation from their competition's governing body, for example the Premier League, is required. The transfer window restriction does not apply to clubs below Football Conference level. [23]

If the last day of a transfer window is on a weekend, the deadline can be extended to the following Monday at the request of those involved for business reasons.[24] The first shift of the deadline since its inception took place in summer 2008, when the deadline was extended by 24 hours to fall on Monday 1 September at midnight.[25][26] The transfer deadline in England was similarly extended to 5pm 1 September 2009, due to the August Bank Holiday. The German football league has announced to extend the January 2009 deadline to 2 February.[27]

Free agents can be signed by a club at any time in the season, if they had been released by their previous club before the end of the transfer window.[24] A club can request to sign a player on emergency basis, e.g. if several goalkeepers are injured at the same time.[24] In England, clubs from the Football League Championship to the Football Conference can loan in players from 8 September to 25 November and also from 8 February until 24 March.[28] An existing loan deal can be made permanent at any time outside the transfer window.[citation needed]

The day upon which a window closes is known as transfer deadline day, and is usually one of the busiest days of the window, generating a flurry of transfers, often because a number of interdependent transfers are completed resembling a housing chain, generating much media interest.

My thoughts are you are wrong and we will sign players but it won't be as previous seasons. We are now dealing purely in quality and not quantity. I reckon 2 maybe 3 but that will be it.
