Over the years many none City games were played there including Semi Finals,an England Under 21 game plus plenty of Rugby matches I was told there was also a League cup final game played there but not got a clue who it was against and of course the rags were tenants for many years

The League Cup final game that was played there was a replay in 1984 between Liverpool and Everton after they drew the initial game 0-0 at Wembley. Liverpool won 1-0 with a goal by Graeme Souness and the match saw the last crowd of over 50K at the ground for a football match (maybe for any occasion, but am not sure whether any of the concerts held there in the mid or late-1980s may have topped that figure).

First time the Kippax had seats installed was for American preacher Billy Graham. Attended with my sister just to see how it worked, weird chap Graham he would have been a good fit leading the community singing at Liverpool.

Went to a Trevor Cherry testimonial in the mid 80s City v England xl, not so sure why they had it at Maine rd v City can't think of any links between City and Trevor.

Was it not Bob Taylor the England/City physio who had passed away or am I getting stuff confused?

Not sure really, I was about 10yo and quite excited to see England at gods own club but pretty sure it was Trevor's testimonial(tho the years have faded my memory) think I've still got the program in me attic.

Edit your explanation sounds more plausible than mine.
