(Non-obvious) City players you didn't like

Ireland.

Don't have any great reasons other than that footballers are supposed to be people that you can kind of look up to. They should be a bit.. I guess the best way to say it is "cool". Even when you start to get older than many of them (at 29 tomorrow I'm starting to get into that territory myself), I think even older supporters have that part of them that idolizes players in a big brother/cool older kids at school kind of way.. and Ireland was like the opposite of that for me. Total douche! Tried so hard to be cool that he surely wasn't! The kind of guy I would go out of my way to avoid. This is all based on non-football stuff though, so perhaps it's unfair.

If it's being decided based on on-the-field stuff, then for all his genius (and I am a bit Jekyll and Hyde about him.. I don't know how I feel about him from one day to the next), Mario can be supremely frustrating. One minute he is taking horrendous cards that kill the team or diving like a punk and the next he is amazing - embarassing the scum at the swamp or making a gorgeous pass to Kun to set up a title-winning goal (also his pens are bad-ass).

But it's funny.. Even though I have been all over the forums angry at Balo from time to time, when I think of life without him I actually start to get a bit sad! the parent/teacher/coach part of me hates him and the fan part of me loves him.

So yeah, I'll stay with Ireland for my answer.

Also wanted to say that I've never fully understood the AJ hate. Fun player to watch, disappearing acts and all, and he did score (and set up) some crackers this year!

Tin hat nailed firmly on as I'm gonna get some flack over my choice. Uwe Rosler.

Not the Rosler that first arrived and showed pride and passion in a flourishing partnership with Paul Walsh (one of my favourites) in his short spell at the club. But rather the grumpy, give up easily, tantrum throwing, look at me, it's all about me, attention seeking idiot he eventually became as the team fell out of the top flight and then really, really struggled when we needed him most. For me he showed his true colours in adversity and to me failed.

However I'm delighted he has got over his health difficulties and wish him well.

We have had hundreds of crap players who I didnt like in my time.

If we are talking non - obvious though; I would go for Trevor Francis, and yes I do know how good he was I just never really took to him

Having been around a while I can think of loads... lets face it, the sh*t has been far more prevalent than the 'class' untill recent glorious times so there was plenty to dislike.

Robert Hopkins 1986, signed by McNeill who legged it to Villa leaving this moaning little toe-rag demanding a transfer... think we swopped him for Imre Varadi, good business!

FatMannaman, over paid, overweight and sh*t.

Never liked Terry Phelan, I guess i took my frustration with Reid/Ellis out on him.

Gerry Creaney, swopped Paul Walsh AND money for this fat, useless, pointless, meaningless..... wtf??!!

A lot of people have completely misunderstood what this thread is supposed to be about? It's quite shocking actually.

You aren't naming players who were shit. You are asked to name popular players who for (whatever reason?) you personally didn't like?

Dennis Tueart king of all geordies was a fantastic player. Brilliant entertainment value. Steven Daley shit bought from wolves in City transfer record at the the time, and Samaras, a waste of rations

I'll wait for the flak on this one.....

Dennis Tueart.

Overrated poser- thought he was big-time as soon as we signed him. I can't understand what people saw in him, I never liked him as a player or as a director.

1976 overhead was his career highlight, and from where I was (admittedly lower tier, 100 yards away) it looked like he'd fluked it.

The only ex-City player autobiography I'll never read.

Tueart - 'Legend'? - My arse.

I think you're in a very small minority.

A minority of one, I suspect.

D. Mills, B. Thatcher, Nobrat.

usually they are kind of the same thing. those who are shit arent liked by fans. kind of similar. would be tough to find a player who was class and worked his arse off yet people didnt like him. i understand your point though
