North Stand Construction Discussion

Like others, I think City and the Architects went for a rustic brick and pointing look.

I honestly I don't know why. It looks messy at best. And it's certainly not in-keeping with the modern and clean lines of the rest of the hotel.

If it's to mimic the Victorian Manchester warehouse look, that hasn't been achieved either.

Walk around the Ancoats warehouses and look at the brickwork and pointing, which is far superior, even if the brickwork has been repointed when the warehouses were redeveloped.

House of Social is a fantastic example of how brickwork and pointing should be done.

Absolutely amazing brickwork. Scroll down the page for all the pictures.

There is deliberate corbelling in parts yes, but generally on the gables and larger areas, rather than on the piers. But even if those are, there are plenty of flat ones there that are just badly laid.

Wonkier than the wonky roof!
Maybe as previously suggested a Accrington nori or similar engineering brick with a matching colour mortar would have been more appropriate ??

Think the issue here is ultimately workmanship, rather than a choice of colour, finish or build-up. All which are valid opinions on, obviously, but my comment was more how poorly it seems to have been laid.

If that was really the case, why hasn’t it been noticed and picked upon by City and SISK?

We noticed it straightaway when the first pictures of the brickwork and pointing were posted on the thread.

I can’t believe for once second all the brickwork and pointing to date has been ignored and not checked daily by Sisk or the company doing the brickwork and pointing.

'Out brick's on the piss again, awoo'

Maybe they will. It seems to be the half bricks that are most obviously askew, maybe the cutting rather than the laying needs more effort.

Or maybe they think it is ok. A quirk of the photo ;)

The camera never lies. ;-)

Especially my camera. :-)

So far, the Roofs apparently "wonky" the screens are in in the "wrong place?" you cant see the corner of the pitch from one of the broom cupboards and now it seems the brickwork is all wrong? "Sack the board, Sack the Board, Sack the Board" "You dont know what your doing" :-)

Agreed its absolutely stunning , from the choice of brick to the matching mortar to the large factory produced bwk panels, so not really a like for like obviously some is handlaid from your previous pictures

Not good for my OCD , they seem to start a job leave it unfinished then return to it weeks later . The SW corner has a wooden building at the back which is being taken down , is it to build a bigger hospitality venue ?
