North Stand Construction Discussion

They have a single decker acting as a ticket office and it's £5 return, nearly did it with a Leeds friend I was with but uber came through and got us to the ground in minutes at just before 5. Like you say unbelievable why we (Burnham) can't do it!
Cost me £1.50 as a FOC! A very fast service and it’s much further to go than from the Etihad. Lots of taxis as well. We have a bloody shambles.

Think Andy Burnham is too busy kissing scruffy Jim’s ass and trying to condone putting public money into the “pie in the sky “ new stadium fiasco ;-)

Leeds United is one of the worst grounds in the country but their bus shuttle is fantastic. They essentially have a bus depot next to the stadium with a continous constantly moving queue of shuttle buses which whisk you back into central Leeds on bus lanes (almost 3 miles away) in about 15 minutes. There are scores of buses involved. Why can't we do this? We still don't even have a proper taxi rank for our stadium or Co-op Live. Transport is laughable at the Etihad.
Its a two mile walk to the train station from the ground at Leeds.

You see the dual carriageways near the ground which are clear of pedestrians compared to the roads into the city centre from Coms. There are the old buses and the new buses, but unless there is a new flyover they get stuck in people after the final whistle.

Were never going to have a taxi rank, car journeys are being discouraged.

That is 2-5% on turnover.

Profit in construction is best assessed on capital provided rather on turnover. Half of the cost of a typical construction project is accounted for by materials and another quarter or more (maybe?) by subcontractors and by plant hired companies.

The contractor will normally be paid monthly based on proportion of the project completed and will not usually pay the suppliers, subcontractors, and plant hirers until after they have received the cash from the client.

That 2-5% margin on turnover could end up as 25-30% or more as return on cash invested.

All this has little to do with the margins on fixed price or fluctuations contracts provided that the rate of inflation is low or predictable.
Thanks — it’s amazing how much you learn on Bluemoon.

A 25,000 arena, a 60,000 stadium, and a 400-bed hotel with no proper transport options other than a single track Tram is just ridiculous. An embarrassment to the city and a total failure by TFGM. Just crass stupidity. The club needs to do more to lobby the council as well.

The Etihad stadium is 1.4 miles from Piccadilly train station, and 1.0 miles from Ashbury's train station. The walk to Piccadilly station is straightforward and can be done in 25 minutes by most people. There are loads of buses, a tram-line, and the M60 motorway, and the Manchester ring road are nearby.

Even before the arena was built, never mind the hotel, the tram service after the game is laughably shite (same with the buses, and you'd be as quick to walk) . I tried the tram once never again. The platform at the Stadium resembles an Arsenal corner. Whenever I'm over for a game, I walk back into town, along with thousands of others.

And yes; I fully appreciate that there are folk who are physically incapable of walking into town.

There is a link on mancity.com to the North Stand. Most of the content is old, but it's all in one place. It's quite possible that it has been there for some time but it's the first time I have noticed it...

And 25 mins (optimistic) after the match doable before where people are walking at different times) still means folks miss last trains at 10pm on 8pm kick offs because our infrastructure is shite.

I never use the tram but if I lived outside Manchester and lived on a line, I think I would use it. On match day, bus travel to the Etihad is impaired by car congestion. If we could deal with that, bus travel would be much better. I occasionally use the matchday buses if I am at my Dad's in the High Peak but the service is impaired a lot by car congestion. The journey home is 1 hour for night games when the traffic melts away but on the way in it takes ninety mins which is too long. I think car use in Manchester is falling. It needs to fall some more for those that rely on cars, and for everyone else.

Feels about 10.4 when i'm walking it back after a game in the pissing rain.
