North Stand Construction Discussion

Apologies if I haven't been paying attention in class but when we attend a match next season will the new roof have been installed or e.g will we still be looking at the back of the existing level 2.
Just trying to get a handle on what we will be looking like at in the Stadium?

Agreed. I can see the hotel being run independently as an attraction destination venue similar to those in Las Vegas and Disney. There are plenty of ways for marketing and sales for such hotels without being part of a chain. Hotel owners do change brands.

We do not know details about the hotel and its offer. However it would not surprise me to see a brand identity established with partners for similar hotel developments in other locations.

In the US, 80% of all hotels are branded. In the UK that is about 60%. Worldwide, around 40%. Branded hotels are quite popular. Even the unbranded ones, a lot of the time aren't 'independent', they are run by third party operators.

There is a lot to suggest this one might not be. Partly the fact part of its function is heavily tied to the club, i.e the rooms at the top to the stand, on match days won't operate as rooms. Beds will be put away into storage and they will be vip 'booths'. So whoever takes it and runs it will have to have a working understanding with the club, with part of it always 'belonging' to the club. There aren’t that many brands that have this as part of their offering. Will be interesting to watch.

I know its early but any guesses on the hotel operator do Silver Lake have any interests in hotel operations?
Can't see any Dell computers, tech and finance mainly, closest is the Oak view group (Arena partner) RAC surprised to see

I like Mike but hes no more deserving of a stand named after him, lets face it the ambassador role can hardly be classified as work more like a jolly
Thinking of the likes of Tony Book or Ken Barnes both of who dedicate a large part of their lives to City in roles that weren't jollies
He’s not just an ambassador though. To me he’s a proper club legend. There’s different categories for that, but for me he’s right up there with players like Colin bell.

Absolutely not.

It will be like The Swamp where every subsequent manager is looking out at the name of a legend who can never be matched.

Give him a 'massive' statue along North Korean lines.

Don't want to take the thread over with what Pep should be honoured with, but a statue isn't enough, and that's already been done for Sergio, Vinney, Dave, Bell, Lee and Summerbee. Bell also has the main stand named after him.

I doubt a future City manager will ever come close to what Pep has won for the club. You can never say never, but I very much doubt it.

Naming the new North stand home end after Pep is very fitting. I'm sure the City fans in the the new North stand home end would agree with that, and would welcome that.

It would be a fitting tribute to name the stand after him but only on condition of completing 10 years.

To be honest I know he hasn’t won as much or managed us, but for me Mike summerbee deserves to have the north stand named after him. He’s basically worked for the club his whole life and been a great ambassador for us.

I’m not sure we should name a stand after a manager. We could end up with an even better one in the future.

Alternatively I like the idea of the naming it after an area or something specific to city - the Ardwick end..
Maybe ask season ticket holders to send in ideas then have a vote.

As I understand it, for most of the season you will see the north stand as it is, minus the hospitality (and the back two rows, someone else pointed out). It will be hoarded off, and the front part of the roof will be propped and hung off the cables. The back part of the roof and stand will be demolished. The new roof will be built above the retained bit, and the new stand behind the existing. Then in the following off season they will remove the old roof and connect the new stand terraces to the old, to open for the season.

It’ll look very similar to this with the new section being built behind and eventually above (new roof).
