North Stand Construction Discussion

Great video ssskies - I counted the seats of the north end of the 3rd tier extensions whilst you were focussing on the New Screen - 133 seats in each corner - thats a potential 266 seats that could have gone in whilst the South Stand expansion was being done - we would have been clear over 62,000 then - missed opportunity to my mind :-(
Thanks DiscoSteve definitely. Cheers

I fully understand mate.

I wouldn't complain about either of you.

You are both doing a brilliant job.

Perhaps it's just me, but I love the Etihad and city centre skyline shot with nothing on the Collar site (yet) to spoil it.
To be fair it does look good with the skyline as a back drop

I don’t get how the cable net works of the old roof. It’s below the level of the new roof and also below the level of the new South Stand roof. I don’t recall noticing it though when I look at the South Stand. My understanding was they were unable to remove the cable net, or parts of it, as it will compromise the holding up of the other stands’ roofs. Anyone explain? If they can’t remove it then how come I don’t see it in the South Stand? Puzzling.

Probably a optical illusion, it’s there but because it’s thin wire or cable or whatever you don’t see it properly

I genuinely thought that about two weeks ago, and now wish I had said it before it actually happened. But yea the footings did look like they could pivot and the coupled bays efectively just be pulled forwars. Hence removing the seats at the bottom.
Feels like just yesterday they were rolling it into place

Think of it like a doughnut that is bolted to all the original roof and will be there until all 4 stand roof's are replaced if you cut a piece out the 2 remaining roof's collapse

It stays and it is there on the south stand as well. There is a second one above the new roof that holds the new roof. It acts as a ring of tension and takes all 4 sides to complete the forces.

Why is one surface of the steels connecting the office block to the north stand seemingly painted in a rust colour rather than being the same grey colour as the other faces?

The red is a basic oxide protective paint. The grey is an intumescent fire protection on top of it. Where the junctions meet other steel elements abd there is no direct exposure, they dont need fire coating and the basic oxide is enough. Similarly with any secondary steel elements

It’s there.
