North Stand Construction Discussion

Can you imagine it.

The Oasis stage is at the South stand end of the Etihad. The Etihad is full, the North stand is full, the pitch is full, everyone is in City blue doing the Poznan to Cigarettes & Alcohol. A spectacle and a moment nobody taking part in the Poznan will ever forget.
They should do a concert just for City fans!

What a letdown. We end up with a great stand with shit views - some of which are in the ‘best’ seats! The aesthetics from the East stand looking at the roof joins are poor also - you are unable to see the top corners of the new stand. We need to rectify this by expanding both sides. This is a must in my opinion.
Put yourself in Sheikh Mansour’s shoes. I’m sure he’s being kept up to date with progress of this development. If I was him I’d be livid with the sight lines from each corner and the Sky Bar. That’s not what I’m spending hundreds of millions of pounds on to end up with a stand with restricted or poor views.
We are sure that our owners do not settle for second best in anything they do. This building project has to end up being the best in class; The corners need to be joined up to expanded CB and E stands in order to achieve that.

Not going to happen. How can they join the top 2 tiers of the CB and E stands to the new single tier of the N stand?
Think he is talking about expanding both sides, and raising their roofs to join the height of the others.

Which can happen without the stands joining up to each other.

But think we are some time away from that.

Where do we think the inside of the hotel will be up to? Plumbers, sparks?
Don't think so, more like studs on the infil partitions and corridors. It is not entirely weatherproof yet either, and it still has over a year to go.

When they do get to it, plumbing work will be minimal, mostly connections of the pre made pods. Sparks will have a fair bit though.

Will all the seats in the expanded North Stand allow views of the full pitch???

If yes then they sounds like it’s good enough. If not then that’s a surprise.

Think that's a view standing up,should be ok when you sit down.
But if/when those in front of you stand up and you’re forced to do the same? Will be interesting to see if you lose any view of the pitch. I’d assume not and it’s just how the view appears from the pic but time will tell. Especially if safe standing is to be installed to the rear of the stand.

Could just be a quirk of the picture as well. They would have known that roof was there and how the junction works, and they seem to have spent a bit of time considering the views, in the design process. As you say, time will tell.

'A letdown' have a word with yourself. We've had to manipulate and redesign a bowl arena with a cable net roof, no easy feat. If you're in the corner of NSL3, are you watching the football or the 3rd tier of the East stand all game? You'll be able to see the majority of the stadium.

Do you think they haven't thought this all through when designing it? If there is actually a restricted view (of the pitch whilst sat down) in that new stand I'll apologise, and stand corrected.

You either get this abrupt finish on the corners, or you get the shit show of the south stand corners which they are now sorting (kind of). I know which I'd choose.

Top post.

Also, Danny Wilson said from the start that the expanded Etihad could not be perfect compared to a brand new build like Spurs. The designers / architects will have had to make the odd compromise.

I think it’s going to brilliant watching the Blues in a 60k plus Etihad.

Haha! Maybe my wording was a bit strong but my sentiment stands; It’s a great project and one we should be extremely proud of but it’s far from perfect. How does that sound?
Oh, you were serious then? ;)

Like the sails and the outrage they caused initially, I'm firmly of the opinion that I'll wait until it's actually finished and known Blues on here post pics and videos. It makes life less stressful.
