Norwich City Thread - 2021/22

If they appoint Dean Smith then what was the bloody point in sacking Farke?

Smith has been appointed not to keep them up but to promote them next year. Surely Farke would stand a much better chance of that. Smith scraped the play offs having spent £££

They want to be seen to be doing something. It doesn't matter that sacking him makes no sense; fans will never accept relegation and building for a promotion challenge next season, so early in the current season.
They are only five points adrift. We may see it as a lost cause but football fans act with blind loyalty.

Seems like they quite clearly aren't happy with or planning for relegation with Smith to bring them up. They have shown they'll stick with a manager for the entire season if that's what they're expecting (Farke in 19/20 is proof of that).

They've hired Smith because they want to stay up and he's managed a reasonable 1.16 points per game in the Premier League and Farke has managed an incredibly bad 0.50, conceding 2 goals a game and scoring well under 1.

Farke seems to be the managerial equivalent of Alexander Mitotic, blows the championship away but is absolutely shite in the PL.

A typically unambitious move by Norwich. They should have gone for Lampard.
Strange appointment , they would be better sticking with Farke rather than the bland Smith.

Lampard would have been a great ambitious appointment, maybe the club would not back him financially, hence why he pulled out.

Genuinely would love to hear why Lampard is an ambitious choice as manager? He took over 6th placed Derby, brought in a load of great players and finished 6th. He took over 4th placed Chelsea and finished 4th.

His sides didn't play great attacking football, they didn't have solid defences, he marginalised a lot of players at Chelsea that have gone on to win the CL and become mainstays under Tuchel challenging for this years title.

He failed spectacularly to integrate new signings which is particularly relevant to Norwich.

There's no reason for anyone to consider him an ambitious appointment apart from his playing career.

I suppose they're looking at it as Smith kept villa up and that's ultimately their aim in 2 seasons time once they go down and come back up, the problem is, he kept them up by the skin of their teeth after one of the worst cock ups in refereeing history, they should have been relegated and that was after spending a shit tonne more money than the Norwich board will ever spend. All they've done is reset and gone back a few years.

Well if Smith can maintain 1.16 ppg then Norwich will end up with 36 which is hardly comfortable. But I'd suggest the Villa squad is slightly higher calibre so Norwich will still be in the brown smelly stuff. - And the Championship next season.
He may be a good fit for their squad, but that remains to be seen.

Simply because in terms of status in the game he’s a ‘big name’, because of his brilliant playing career.

Although that doesn’t always mean a successful manager, it can mean a club is able to attract better players who respect Lampard the player, and more sponsors and media attention because of his playing fame.
