Yes I understand what you are saying, I think older people long for the more simplistic way of life when they were young.
But also they are right in saying that things were harder back then.
I grew up in a house with no heating, and nice food was harder to come by. Looking back to my childhood we eat a very simple diet.
Cheese was Cheshire, there was no Brei or Stilton. Etc etc.
Walked over 2 miles to school and back rain or shine. Mum didn't have a car.
