Nottingham Forest (H) | Post Match Thread

Rico has been thrown in at the deep end due to injuries, he's not ready yet but has had to play. No idea what's happened to Walker. His legs are going and he seems to have lost all sense of positional play and defending. Something isn't right with Phil as his frequent mysterious absences prove.
it’s obvious - at least to me - that the whole squad is stale and needs a rest.

They’ve been playing competitive football, almost non-stop, for the last four years, with a few exceptions.

They all need a rest, both mentally and physically.

Much better performance and great result, we await the news of how many new injuries we picked up....

I think the blasting out of the "We’ve Got Guardiola!" song over the PA system just before kick off was a big "FUCK YOU!" to all Pep's critics and those questioning the great man and an unequivocal show of support from the hierarchy at the club.

Thought he did pretty well but what’s with his unwillingness to shoot.

Yeah it was the only downside to his performance - he only pulled the trigger when he had about 4 bodies in front of him. Aside from that, his carrying from midfield, the setting of the rhythm in attack (holding it when necessary) and some of his passing was fantastic - that one to Doku down the wing was sublime.

Could have been 3-3 had they taken their chances, but could have been 8-0 had we taken ours. Overall we were at least three goals better than them. Oliver wasn't as bad as he could have been but seemed to give them some leeway to make up for the difference in quality.
Crowd was up for it which was great and I quite liked the "Champions of Europe? You weren't even born." chant, which can also be used against Villa.
Newcastle's late equaliser was another little boost, it didn't rain going back to the car, and the rags lost again. Top night out really.

Yep. Much better - but you can tell the players are still frail from the injuries that they are having to play with. No other team could have done what we’ve done with so many injuries to first team players. Akanje & Ake clearly needed more recovery time but we had no cover with Stones being injured.

A good start on our road to recovery
And that is the issue....1 step forward, 2 or 3 back.

Players having to play out of position when semi fit, picking up futher strains, rinse and repeat game after game.

Ozzy Bob may return early in the New Year but we need elite ready to go reinforcements which is a bloody challenge.

It seems as if James McAtee & Nico O' Riley are only on the perifery of the squad.

Jack in midfield could be like signing another player...he's a handful and will attract & occupy oppo players creating space for KDB etc.

In order of importance -:
Pivot.
Goal scoring forad.
Right back.
Creative provider.
Centre back/Left back.

Two windows and £350 million will refresh and reboot us.

Do things wjen we can , not when we must, pragamatism not idealism !!

A much needed result, a great win.

If Doku and Grealish can do a job consistently, we could settle. Palace away is a test of what direction we're going in.

Loved Grealish playing through the middle. We've got great wide options without him, and we need reinforcing in centre mid. Hope we stick with him in the middle. De Bruyne is just fabulous when he's on it. Some of the tikka taka was breathtaking. Mind you a few of the defensive errors made me hyperventilate too!

Best team performance of the season, if we are nitpicking there were times we were lucky Forest lacked accuracy, but the boys played out of their skins from the whistle and our support was very good. CTID.

We really can't catch a break this season when it comes to injuries. I thought once again Ake was stand out at the back, just so composed and strong in 1v1's. When we think about the difference in him and Gvardiol its easy to note how far Ake is ahead of him as he's so solid, but you forget how poor he was earlier at City. I remember thinking he would never be good enough for City, it just takes time i guess. Gvardiol is such a strange player, clearly an absolute athlete but uses his body poorly when in 1v1's, just not strong enough and not focussed enough to do what's needed at the right time. Generally his passing has been amazing for us, breaks the lines really well, but at the moment he's doing everything wrong - maybe just needs to take a breath and go back to the basics with simple passes for now.
I thought KDB looked completely different to what we've seen from him since the treble season, actually looked like he could move last night and some of his turns were brilliant - not seen that in a while! You can see Gundo needed that composure around him, as soon as KDB came off he went to pieces for a bit and was just turning into players.

We always give up opportunities, thats never been new for City, but we need to build on something. The biggest issue right now is when we take a step forwards we get injuries and it's hard to build from.
