Nuclear disarmament?

I’m in favour as I see it as the nations insurance policy.
What I think is interesting now is mad dog Putin has thrown the play book out of the window. He’s putting the MAD scenario to the test. He’s pushing the boundary. Basically said fuck it I’m doing it let’s see what your prepared to do back. Have you the appetite.

I don't think anyone will be nuking you anytime soon, what would be the point ?
Bit of a daft post.
We could do with them as a deterrent to China. We sell $130 billion of minerals to China p.a. (60% of their Iron Ore needs) and I'm sure China would be tempted to one day try to invade us . We have very little to deter a super power. We have a huge country (same as USA) with a small population (25million).

Too many Bogans to contend with

Unilateral disarmament is an invitation for Russia/China/North Korea, etc., to reduce those that oppose them to smoldering, radioactive ash. The world is full of bullies with big sticks - best keep your own stick handy.
Absolutely agree.

Unilateral disarmament could only make sense if it was used as a lever to encourage others to do the same. But when there is absolutely zero chance of your foes following suit, it is a completely crazy option.

As a young lad in the 80’s, I was very much in favour of getting rid of all nuclear weapons, scared the shit out of me tbh because there were times it seemed like it was a very real and viable option to the USA and USSR, then Gorbachev came along, and for the first time in a long time, I actually felt safe.
Not sure how Gorbachev was thought of as a leader in general, but with regards to nuclear warfare and moving forward, he seemed to be a reasonable man and one who had an open mind and one who was actually trustworthy, so I lost interest in any campaign.

It seems now we’ve gone backwards at an alarming rate, and there’s now a monster in the house, so in hindsight, I’m glad we do have a nuclear deterrent, it may make him think twice, then again …..
