NYCFC Live Announcement

...The guy who keeps bending down and going in front of of the camera looks like Arsene Wenger; I hope he is not shopping in our "franchise" (.... I hate that term!)

More glowing praise for Pellegrini from Txiki. Love it.

In fact. Can you just feel the love everywhere around City at present.

Soft as shit I know but it does warm the heart.

Interesting.

What's a designated player ?

MLS operates under a wage cap system but has a "designated player" exemption that allows such players with this tag to receive a wage above and beyond that normal ceiling. It's referred to at times as the Beckham rule, as it's creation was required to allow him to originally go to the states. I believe they have recently increased the number of "designated players" that an individual club can have to three.

Cheers - my feed has just got to the point where they're talking about designated players.

Correct, also often the DP can be given to a domestic player as well ( a la Landon Donovan)

I'm probably alone in this (and the desire is really just driven by the amateur graphic designer in me) but I am disappointed they have not yet unveiled the full club branding just yet (crest, colours, motto).

My experience in this industry is that you want to cement that as quickly as possible, even prior official play.

As an aside, Jason, Ferran, and Txiki are very confident speakers.

Loving the way they lay out "The City Way". The future is Blue and the future is glorious lads!

I know! The City Way. I love it. They've not mentioned holistic yet though! :)

New York City FC ‏@NYCFC 7s
.@JasonKreis: "I'm quite certain that #NYCFC will sign 3 Designated Players. I'm also certain that they will be the right people."

Interesting.

What's a designated player ?

Hopefully Garcia, Dzeko and Jovetic ;)

great quote from Ferran, "there's another club in Manchester, I can't remember their name"

"...for example there is another club in Manchester... I can't remember the name of it right now but there is one." - Ferran, when asked about getting New Yorkers interested in NYCFC and MLS despite other clubs' (namely RBNY) difficulties doing so. He was commenting on intercity rivalries that enrich supporter experience.

He is good.

MLS has weird rules as all American sports must have. It has a salary cap to maintain league parity, but realized parity doesn't always fill stadiums, you need a little star power. So, they sprinkled in a rule that allows for 3 "designated players" per team that do not contribute towards the salary cap. Often it provides a little class and flair to the team, but doesn't guarantee results as squads often become imbalanced.

The one thing I figured out about following the MLS is that unless you specialize in contract law, the whole system is a bit confusing. If you start following NYCFC you will start hearing terms like "allocation money, and allocation order". Enjoy!

all over, know it was NYCFC focused, but some interesting insight into the football principles

Ferran has just become a City legend ha-ha!!!!!.

Allocation funds can also be traded, there is also a draft where collegiate and University players are selected by clubs and are bound by contract to play with them. Often there is I believe the Rule 2 draft- where players with expired contracts can be re-selected by others teams (and once selected can negociate contracts with the club).

The rivalry with Red Bull (dispise that brand) has huge potential, probably one of the main reasons they chose New York. The MLS is definitely the fastest growing league in the world, watched a lot of it last year and you would be surprised by atmosphere and colour in the stadiums.

Think Defoe has gone to Toronto today, who were one of the worst teams last season.
