Oakland Raiders move to Las Vegas

Thanks. That should be handy to know for the WC Outrage thread that'll appear on here in a few years. If only I had the memory to remember past what was I saying again?
Lol. That thread should be interesting.

Day trippers and away fans in the area?
It's similar to that here in Tampa, with The Glazer owned Buchaneers - I don't know anyone who watches them as it is a very transient area and folk simply support the team that was local to them wherever they grew up.
There are maybe 50 staff at work and probably only 5 are born and raised Tampa
I dont think Tampa sell out every week though do they ? they have always struggled for crowds. I guess their matches are not shown locally live because of that ?

I would imagine it will a mix of tourists and locals. Sunday in Vegas for a game would be a huge draw i imagine when you think of the type of people who go to vegas.
Really ? i thought most wanted to get pissed, gamble and shag fit hookers. I would think that would be the last of their thoughts, and not good for building a brand (although they clearly don't give a shit)

I imagine an afternoon drinking at the match followed by a night of coke, gambling and hookers would be their ideal day.

So you think that cities should use tax payer money to fund stadiums for billionaires? I know the Raiders might be different here because the City bid to take them back a long time ago but this is going to be a problem for most city's and franchises soon enough. The demand for brand new, state of the art stadiums that cost a billion plus are on the rise, there is no way all teams will be able to keep up so there's going to be a lot more relocation and a lot more stadium sharing. It seems like the longevity of a billion dollar stadium now is about 30 years, and God knows what the cost will be to replace them in another 30 years.

Secondly, none of what you wrote takes into consideration the fans. It's not their fault that the city didn't keep to their side of the bargain or that the billionaire owner didn't ent to build his own stadium. I still read Chargers forums and it's soul destroying what the NFL/Chargers/city of San Diego has done to that fanbase. This whole relocation process is wrong, wrong, wrong and a blight on the NFL.

I get what you are saying, but the fact is the city promised them a new stadium to get them there, then reneged. Paying money they didn't agree to pay has left the Raiders a shell of it's former self.

It sucks for the fans, yeah. But ultimately that rests on the city for breaking promises.

Totally different culture isn't it. $! $! $!

Imagine a European wide football league and City being a franchise moving to Paris. I'd be sick, or rioting. Nice rioting - lots of finger potting and "****" calling or the sort.

Or Spurs leaving White Hart Lane. ;-)

I don't understand how a new team can rock up to a city and people just get behind them right away

After the findings of Dr Bennet Omalu who in their right mind would want their kids playing NFL...

Watching Concussion must've put many an American parent off...

That's a pretty ignorant statement based on a blatant piece of propaganda.

And before you flap at me saying that, I'm personal friends with the leading researcher in the field of CTE in football and have watched numerous videos of my idols brains being dissected. I know exactly what CTE is and I played the game, winning a European championship and was in the mix for a roster spot in NFL Europe before it closed. I've nerve damage due to playing. I coached in Europe and had a stint in a US NCAA Div 1 team. I was a coach educator responsible for instilling player safety into coaches across the world. So I get it.

But the sport is like no other. It's highly skilled at a lightning pace and is as close to actual combat as you'll get outside of an octagon.

You want to know why I'd have my kid play? Because I want him to hold his head high. Too many kids in life these days aren't challenged. We live in a world where it's not okay for a kid to play on the road and scrape his knee. Kids need to be challenged, to fall, to get hit.

To be totally honest I've a huge problem with how CTE is being addressed. The answer isn't to grandstand on tv and take out a player. The solution is to limit contact in practise. It's the tens of thousands of head bumps gotten in 2 a day practices for a decade that are causing the injuries, not a solitary hit when someone is a grown adult. If kids were coached safely and correctly, then this issue could be extremely reduced. But there's 100's of coaches doing things the old "water is for wimps" way and that's what has made this a crisis.
