Agreed. Most important opening day fixture in many years. Win, and it's onwards and upwards. Lose, and the knives will be out as eveyone's waiting for us to fail.

No this is a good selection for me. Strength in the air at the back and ability to dominate possession going forward. The home game against Blackburn showed if you can keep them out from long throws etc the better players aka Ireland, Barry in midfield will be able to dictate the play. I'm very confident.

Not had a full pre season behind him. Bearing in mind we're going to get a kicking today I don't think its a bad idea. it's only the first game! Once he's a bit fitter he'll be starting, don't worry!

Lack of match fitness I believe. The more surprising one is NDJ, who I would have thought would definitely have played today (even though I'm not his biggest fan).
