Why so? I think Diarra would give us more both offensively and defensively than Elano does right now. I'm not an Elano hater, but Diarra is class.

Elano and Ireland are playing as central midfielders above Kompany, on the verge of being attacking midfielders. Diarra can play good passes, Elano is more about offensive outbursts every tenth minute or so. Diarra is better at holding together the team in the middle, what a good CM does - like Fabregas, Lampard etc.

it would give us a midfield that might win back the ball more, let us pass through midfield more

we dont have enough passing options in the midfield

that is why we arent creating anything of note, and why we arent keeping possesion, which is why we are losing confidence, and everton are gaining it
