welcome raheem

TBF , have noticed that now the media is ever so slightly changing its tune. Have now read a few articles like the below one from the daily mirror

Raheem Sterling's Liverpool exit is about more than just money - it's about ambition

On the move: Raheem Sterling is moving to Manchester City in a £49m deal
The pound signs make it difficult to argue the deal is not just about the money.

But Raheem Sterling’s £49m move to Manchester City is also about ambition and determination to become a better player.

Liverpool cannot offer Champions League football next season and are less likely to win trophies – and it is silverware Sterling craves.

His transfer was ugly and drawn-out, but City’s third offer – which with add-ons could see Liverpool pocket £49million – was too good to refuse.

Sterling’s £180,000-a-week wages are £80,000-a-week more than the new deal offer he rejected at Anfield.

Issues: Brendan Rodgers and Sterling's relationship was far from ideal

But his determination to move on was also about making progress on the pitch.

He is fiercely ambitious and believes he must be playing at the top level to realise his potential for his England career.

Sterling’s camp pushed hard to get the deal done because the 20-year-old no longer felt Liverpool was the best place for him.

Former Kop stars queued up to criticise his stance towards a club with an illustrious past. But Sterling is interested only in his future.

He believes City offer him a better chance of success than Liverpool.

He also feels his relationship with manager Brendan Rodgers has been in decline since last season.

Steven Gerrard admitted he was upset to be on the bench for Liverpool’s Champions League visit to Real Madrid in November and Sterling was equally unimpressed only being called upon for the final 21 minutes of such a huge game.

Final days: Raheem Sterling in his last Liverpool training session
Those are the sort of occasions that players want to be involved in and within a short space of time the contract stand-off became a big issue for Liverpool and Sterling.

Sterling claimed that had Liverpool offered him a new deal during the 2013/14 season, then he would have signed but the club stalled.

And by the time the new season came around, Luis Suarez had gone, Liverpool were in decline and Sterling could see the writing on the wall by the time an offer of £90,000-a-week came in. If it was just about the money, he’d still have signed.

But now Sterling goes to City not just because he will help their English quota. He goes there to be a major part of the squad which Manuel Pellegrini hopes will reclaim the Premier League title.

Pellegrini wants top class signings and Sterling is exactly that. Roy Hodgson rates him so highly that he started with him as England’s No10 in the opening game of the World Cup against Italy. And he was England’s best player.

He can thrive now with players like David Silva, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero. City have assembled one of the best attacking forces in Europe and Sterling will be at the forefront of that.
