Basically, the TEAM has a few glaring problems:
1) Lack of height, or more accurately, lack of USE of height, from dead ball situations (both attacking and defending).
2) A few players who like to take a vacation when things are not going their way.
3) A lack of a SETTLED defensive set-up, due to injuries, suspensions and new signings.
4) A lack of "bite" when called for in the dead of winter, away from home, game on the line.
5) A left midfielder who can help his defender (Bridge) and spring the attack (Bellamy et al).
Sadly, if I can see this from a few trips to Eastlands and watching every game on TV or computer, then EVERY EPL manager can see it, too. Ergo, we get attacked INCESSANTLY down our left, we shrink from the fight in the middle third of the field (especially in the last quarter of the game), we are fragile (to say the very least) on EVERY free kick pumped into the box or corner kick, and we miss FAR TOO MANY chances for a team that is second highest scorers in Prem (are we still?!).
SOME of that is down to coaching and tactics, but MOST of it is down to individual players NOT doing the job they are paid to do. ANY dead ball in the last 20 minutes and I EXPECT Given, Kompany and ESPECIALLY Dunne screaming their heads off at players to get in position and defend like their lives depended on it. I just don't see it! I see a team at sixes and sevens trying to block a shot and hope the ball does not fall to the open man, because there is nearly ALWAYS one or two open.
All that said, we are a completely different team from last year, and oceans away from a Pearce team. We have the foundation, both with Academy players and shrewd purchases, to be a young, growing in experience, team sprinkled with game winning superstars (on their day). I don't think ANYONE relishes coming to Eastlands and I think everyone is waiting for City to stuff someone away from home. Hopefully, it will be tomorrow, but as Ireland has said, no-one expects us to win and Liverpool will have to come and attack us to win, which might create some openings.
The run in is certainly not an easy one, and I DEFINITELY hope the Man Ure game is not the one that the Rags need to win for the title, but either way, there are a group of players who are playing for their Man City futures in the next few months and it will be up to them whether they take the chance or not. A few people will get found out and a few people will rise to the occasion.
Wonder what the team will look like in August?! However, if they are wearing Blue and sweating for a living, I will be behind them 100%, as I am now.
CTID!
